Driod ERIS iPhone killer

what do you thank of the android op system from google

Today was the 1st time I ever played with it. Seemed like it was just as good as the iPhone. I'm not an Apple "my way or the highway" fan to start with. No MMS, no video, no zoom on camera, no tethering, etc- should be and is standard on most phones and wouldn't have bought my iPhone had I researched it. I never thought some thing as touted as the iPhone, and I bought the 3G when it 1st came out, wouldn't have these features. They do now but others have had them for years. I don't think this ERIS does tethering but that is my least used feature so that's ok.

They hiring? :cheers2:

You can have my gig- I'm going to hit the lottery soon!

samsung moment is a phone i am lookng at with sprint and it is andriod also HTC makes one but it is all touch and i think i want a hard key pad

Looks/sounds similar to the Tmobile MyTouch I was given this weekend. I'm not thrilled with the actual interface software since it doesn't seem very customizable at all. The touch-screen keyboard isn't doing me any favors either. I've always thought Samsung's interface software and features seemed to be more robust than others...I'm curious to see what their best 3G offering will be.

andriod is a op system and samsung as with others build phones that work on it you may have been using samsungs system it is different

Well google seems to do well with everything they have a hand in, so.....

Verizon is making me mad. They did something in the network two fridays ago (didn't tell anyone I had to call and complain) and now my phone (storm) only works if it is getting the three g service. Which i don't recieve at my house (wish they just put a tower on my property), and it seems the service was spotty at best after the change over. What makes this worse is the phone does have service, just won't send text, mail, ,or calls, but it bangs the network and kills my battery. So I have a battery using paper weight when at home. Though today I just got an update for it so maybe they fixed the problem.

I use Gmail, Google Calander, Google Pictures/Picasa, Google Chrome, Google Earth...so even if Andriod ends up being weighted towards Google; wouldn't help and may even help me.

ps- Thanks Clark!!! :cheers2:

from what i was told the andriod system is a google based system not windows.

Yes- I'd rather have a Google operating system than a MS/Windows.

Oh man the AT&T lady got an earful just now. The fiance did an EKG on her Grandmother who was having/just had a heart attack and sent her to the ER and wanted me to call the her parents to let them know what was going on. I had to reboot my phone 3 times (5+ mins to get service once that is done) while following the wife-to-be's Grandmother in an ambulance to the hospital. I gave the AT&T lady the time frame I was having issues but politely expressed my frustrations as well.

I had 2nd thoughts about throwing personal stuff in this thread for sensationalism but it's a true story and is a great example of why what I feel was AT&T selling more network capacity than they knew they were capable of dealing with should be illegal or calls having priority over data or some thing. Crazy I can't even make a simple phone call in the rain!

Just be careful with the android operating system. It's not all it's cracked up to be.

# Android uses Linux as its kernel,[78] but according to Google, it is not a conventional Linux distribution; it does not have a native X Window System, nor does it support the full set of standard GNU libraries like its system libraries (GNU C Library). This specific modification makes it difficult to reuse existing Linux applications or libraries on Android.[79]
# Android does not use established Java standards, i.e. Java SE and ME. This prevents compatibility among Java applications written for those platforms and those for the Android platform. Android only reuses the Java language syntax, but does not provide the full-class libraries and APIs bundled with Java SE or ME.[80]
# Because of potential security issues,[81] Android does not officially allow apps to be installed on, nor run from, an SD card. Current Android products such as the HTC Dream and Magic have limited onboard memory and many users feel restricted by this lack of functionality.[82] However, several unsupported modifications exist, to give the user this capability.[83]
# ARM Holdings and RealNetworks have expressed doubt that it will gain a major market share as a netbook OS.[84]
# Responsiveness can be poor due to the limitations of Dalvik's automatic memory management.[85]
# Developers reported that it's difficult to maintain applications working on different versions of Android, because of various compatibility issues between versions 1.5 and 1.6. This however was just the case in some rare cases, specifically during the ADC2 contest.

And it's not a google system per se...they just bought it.

Android is a mobile operating system running on the Linux kernel. It was initially developed by Android Inc., a firm later purchased by Google, and lately by the Open Handset Alliance.[3] It allows developers to write managed code in the Java language, controlling the device via Google-developed Java libraries.[4]

so what are you going to go with

I'm currently sitting here with 0 bars and no service but in fairness to one of our fellow SOS'ers that has stepped in I'm giving them a little more time to see what they can come up with. I don't want to leave but at the same time I have way too much going on in my life right now not to be available.

I spoke with the AT&T person last night and gave her more timelines when I was having issues to see of they can see my SIM card on the network or whatever they do.

This is the 1st handset Verizon has had that was interested in so now time is crunch time. Prior to this handset I wasn't interested in any handsets and knew I wasn't going any where; now... their days are numbered.

So after a little back and forth, AT&T is sending me a new phone and claiming it is my phone and not the network.

I'm thinking of selling my phone on Ebay which would more than offset the $100 to get out of my contract and $100 for a new phone. People are paying $450 for iPhone 16Gig 3G's?!??!

Not for sure what I'm going to do but the new handset will be here on Monday and can get like $100 more for it if new in box vs using it which means I have to make a decision sooner than later. Plus only have 10 days to return my old phone or they charge me $509 for the new phone.

Just to give credit where credit is due; Fedex is the reason my iPhone is still not here. I have a new house, they can't find my address. AT&T had it to Fedex and I should have had it Friday...

I'm waiting to get the phone before ebaying it- any one interested?
