Driod ERIS iPhone killer

Yes- I'd rather have a Google operating system than a MS/Windows.

Oh man the AT&T lady got an earful just now. The fiance did an EKG on her Grandmother who was having/just had a heart attack and sent her to the ER and wanted me to call the her parents to let them know what was going on. I had to reboot my phone 3 times (5+ mins to get service once that is done) while following the wife-to-be's Grandmother in an ambulance to the hospital. I gave the AT&T lady the time frame I was having issues but politely expressed my frustrations as well.

I had 2nd thoughts about throwing personal stuff in this thread for sensationalism but it's a true story and is a great example of why what I feel was AT&T selling more network capacity than they knew they were capable of dealing with should be illegal or calls having priority over data or some thing. Crazy I can't even make a simple phone call in the rain!

Imagine life before cell phones.

ok so you are going to sell the iphone so what are you going to get, i am still on the fence.

iPhone should have been here Friday, still not here. If I were 100% without a phone right now I'd be pretty ****ed...but since a normal day with my iPhone is pretty much like not having a phone (and using my Verizon work cell), I'm use to it. Maybe today....

I'm still on the fence. When my new iPhone gets here, I'm going to the Verizon store with my new iPhone and my current iPhone to check the Driod ERIS out again. The 1st and only time I was there was for like 3 minutes- enough to get me curious but was still working with AT&T on my iPhone issues. Once they said it was my handset/iPhone; I knew they were full of it because I know too many people with AT&T that have issues, and not all of them are iPhoners.

So anyway- I'll go to the Verizon store and either walk out with the ERIS and all my stuff from my old iPhone loaded on it, then ship it back to AT&T and ebay the new in box iPhone OR walk out, plug my SIM in the new iPhone and send the old iPhone back and stick with AT&T.

Let you know what I come up with- whenever my new iPhone gets here..

Just be aware that the tray that holds the sim card has a serial number on it

Good catch! I just checked and you are indeed correct (was there ever any doubt..) They say they are sending it with directions and return shipping labels. They already charged my credit card $509 in case I don't return my current phone to them.

I made the leap and have had the ERIS for a few days now. Shipped my old 16G 3G back to Apple and have the new on they sent me on eBay- average price is $406 but have seen them go for much higher and mine is new in box. Should cover cost to cancel my contract and price of new ERIS.

Camera- ERIS is much better
Video- 3G didn't have it
Storage- ERIS has MiniSD so wins there IMHO even with factory size 8G smaller than my 16G 3G
Home screen- still playing with it but seems about the same
Apps- AT&T wins hands down but Verizon has 12K+ apps and most of the good ones are there
GPS- about the same, little better on ERIS
Voicemail- have to pay $3/mo for visual voicemail, was free with 3G
Keyboard- smaller than 3G and still getting use to it but think 3G is better
Battery- 3G seems to be much better but figuring how to turn things off (GPS, push email) to get more life out of it. Huge plus is being able to take battery off on ERIS- resets phone better when it is screwing up plus can carry a spare battery to hot swap if needed.

I'll update after I get a few weeks under my belt but so far happy I switched since areas I had no service before have service now and not a single dropped called yet!

Keyboard- iPhone is bigger which I can type better on and I have small hands
3G- iPhone is faster but only when I had service, rather have slow than none
cell/voice- Droid hasn't lost a call or went unavailable yet, main reason for switching
Apps- iPhone has better but Verizon adding new every day

So far I'm still glad I switched but if Verizon adds the iPhone I may get one.

I struggle with blanket statements saying that one phone is better than the other due to not getting service. A phone's ability to do more than another phone has nothing to do with the service behind it. Can't blame that on the phone.

I also struggle with blanket statements saying company x or y is the only way to go due to one not working as much as it should due to signal.

Come in my area with Verizon and your gonna b itch about them all day long. Go in another area and you'll probably b itch about AT&T.

All these scenarios are personal experiences based on the area one is spending the majority of their time. They're not facts that apply to everyone using a certain phone with a certain company.

Unless it is an iPhone since it is only available on one network.

Other than that; I agree 100%. I had no issues with AT&T for almost 20 years and over 1/2 that time I've worked for Verizon and didn't switch until now. Can't argue the fact AT&T over sold their network but they are investing over $10B this year in upgrades so the problems will go away; I just couldn't wait any longer.

Your results may vary. :sifone:
