Donzi Upswing

Wasn't there a thread on here & on Donzi.net about a guy who put down money on a New Donzi and was getting the run-around? (DonziAndy I think) they didn't have enough people at the plant to build the boat, but they had his money--------> IIRC

You are correct... But I think it was on OSO & Dnet...

As far as new orders...
Hopefully there wont be a repeat of that for anyone to go thru.. It looked like a mess for both sides..
I hope they did get the orders & hope that they can really build them this time.. It would be good for everyone involved.. :) Jamie / Lakeside

Matt, thanks for eating a little humble pie and setting the record straight. There are still a lot of question marks but I sure hope we do not lose Donzi!

CRC,

Correcting errors, especially my own, is not a problem for me. And sometimes, in making a mistake and getting called on it you find a bigger story. Craig Barrie was absolutely cool when he called me. Like you, I want the record straight. Like you, I really, really want Donzi to survive.

Hey Jupiter,

While I have not seen the signed orders from Miami, I have no reason to doubt what Mr. Barrie told me because, frankly, the surprise and delight in his voice were obvious. He appeared genuine.

Any "new-order" news is good news for this industry.

For those of you wondering about the economy, it's not all doom and gloom, its just that nobody reports the good stuff. Up here in Michigan we just did the Detroit/Cobo Hall show and sold 135 boats; that is 20 more boats than last year. Of course its a whole different boating world up here - new 2010 pontoons were 60% of the sales, and many were in the $40k range. Point is, people are spending money. We also heard that Marine Max did 70 boats at Miami.

We just need to keep positive, quit reporting only the negatives and hope everything keeps moving forward.

Donzi was not at the convention center but were in the water by the Marriot.. Donzi is a name that no one wants to see go away.. Being one of the top dealers from 2003-2007 and number 2 dealer 2005, 2006 qnd 2007 it broke my heart to depart, but the writing was on the wall "Economy was going down" To hear Donzi has new orders is very good news.. Through the years I got to think of everyone at Donzi like family and to see a lot of them loose there jobs was very heart breaking. I own a Donzi and they do build a beautiful boat. Craig... Great going.. Matt keep up the positive news, you are still one of the best in the industry and love reading your stories, time after time....

The pontoon market seems to be doing very well. I am about to order one myself, and when I started looking at the boat show in early January, the stated delivery time was four to six weeks. It is now 12. :(

Hey McCaffertee, what kind of 'toons do you sell?:D

We're not a performance dealer, but over the weekend at Moose Landing Marina we sold at least two Monterey cruisers and two Rinker cruisers at the Boston Boat show, plus another handful of pontoons at our office in Naples, Maine. Upcoming this weekend will be a show in Portland where we have the largest display and already have a number of deals in the works. I'm with Matt on this one. Any order is a good order. We sell the full line of Godfrey pontoons, plus Rinker, Glastron and Monterey, so anyone in the Portland area, come to the show next weekend at Jokers.

Donzi has sold down their existing inventory to about nothing.. There were some great deals to be had, wish I had some spare coin to spend..

Did they? They haven't had a whole lot of boats on their web site since I picked my boat up. In fact, they finally sold the 28ZX that my Dad was looking at back when I bought my boat.

There were new boats everywhere when I was there getting my boat. I can't believe they managed to sell them all considering the lack of advertising.

Regardless... I'm happy they are getting orders. The place was a bit eerie it was so quiet.

I have pictures of the plant since you got your boat that would back up my comment..

Matt Trulio said:
According to Barrie, Donzi has whittled down its 52-boat inventory that it had when he joined the company to six boats. Asked how that was accomplished, Barrie said, “I got lucky.” Then he elaborated.

“We put all of those boats on the “Featured Inventory” part of our web site,” he said. “But really, here’s what I think the key to it is: I always call people back, I’m always there for a service call and I work seven days a week. That’s how my father did it, and that’s how we have to do things now.”
