Classic Boat Show In Buffalo NY

Love the old wooden boats. My uncle has had quite a few over the years and is one of the founding members of the Manotick Classic Boat Club. He currently owns a 1953 22' Shepherd, 1922 22' Gilbert and used to have a 1937 32' Sachau cruiser, one of only 2 known to exist.

Ha! I was just coming in to give him the business about that! How did you guys run?

Great Thanks.....

We were finally able to keep the aileron on...and it was pretty windy and choppy so I'm pleased about that. They had us run with the 280 Inboard hydros.....and I had no problem running with them, even allowing a LOT of extra turning radius (turn fin installation is next). We also need indicators for trim and engine height as well as lifting rings and cables for crane launching.
All in all the boat is very civilized, which was our goal, and I am gaining more confidence in it with each run.

There was a VERY large group of spectators at the facility and over 150 boats on display and in the water....... (made a current offshore race turnout look small by comparison).

The facility (Buffalo Launch/Yacht Club) is beautiful and the hospitality was great. I would go back in a second........... If only the Inboard hydro guys would get over their outboard prejudices, the event would be perfect.

The fleet of "Woodies" was one of the largest I have seen. Each year more and more originals are found in barns and boat houses and , simultaneously, the building and sale of reproductions is increasing. This is a "golden era" for Hackers, Chris Crafts, Gar Woods, and the like.

That's great news. Glad to hear you guys ran well and had a good time.

I'm hoping to take my kids back to see my ancestoral home (sh*theap that it is) for the first time next summer. I plan to fly into Buffalo and work my way along the coast up to Alexandria Bay. One of my stops will be at the Museum in Clayton. I should probably plan to attempt a coincidental visit with the Clayton boat show.

I sure was.....did you see that strange Black twin engine outboard running in one of the groups?

I've met me....... and believe me...it's no honor.....but thanks.

I wish I would of posted earlier that we were going. But we didn't know until about 1pm on Saturday. I don't remember seeing one of the wings unfortunately. We were parked pretty far in on the right side when you enter from the water on the outside of the last dock. We unfortunately missed the races. My boat is the one that has "no fatties no uglies" on the windshield.

Typo... He meant "horror", not "honor"... :sifone:

Hopefully we'll get to meet in person at Clayton then next year then. In spite of my natural predjudice against people from downstate and NJ, I'm sure it would be my sincere pleasure to finally speak to you in person.

Josh, I may hold you to that beer at the Old Pink! Although apparently, I'm not allowed on your boat!

We left at about 2:30 to get home and see ol' Joey Imprescia kick butt at the NYC race. He had that Platinum dialed in and it was by far the most well mannered cat at the race...... He's a consumate pro.

oh! you were jet setting! i think my favorite boat there was miss universe. that boat was absolutely stunning. we cruised to erie basin after and saw a 151ft yacht that was passing through and heading to the FLIBS. i thought it was also really cool how the one guy was offering kids rides in his boat! seems like a great bunch of guys there!
