Circuit City...Another one down the drain.

Trim'd Up

I guess Circuit City is closing the doors. I am sure there are other big retailers not far behind. We have a looong way to go to get out of this mess. But I am sure the "the One" will take care of everything.:leaving:

I think the liquidation sales are supposed to start this weekend. Maybe some good deals on electronics anyway.

They have three professional liquidators coming in. Just like the furniture business, they'll pack those stores with tons of off-brand crap with jacked up fake list prices and major discounts.

Chris is 150% right!

FYI - Don't expect DEALS out of this. The assets / products will be liquidated by an independent company. They will come in, mark the "regular" prices way up, then show "discounts" that will likely be higher than CC day to day price.

There will be loss leaders - huge discounts on a few item that will be advertised to get the unsuspecting in the door. It is all very staged and designed to make money! You'll also find extra stuff in these "liquidations" that CC never ever sold. Those are items liquidators have "in stock" and try to sell during all the "excitement".
Also MFG dump repaired items to liquidators. They also have the repaired items in the mix too.

I have seen this happen in our area with: Luskins (now the Big Screen Store), FX, Sound World, Sound Shop, Prices, Sound Approach, Harvey's Warehouse and a few more. LOTS of nice folks very unhappy / ripped off / taken advantage of.

All in all - be smart and VERY very careful if you decide to visit them during the liquidation.

As far as warranty - as long as it is brand new, sealed, non "b" goods; you'll have full mfg warranty.
But stay away from the private label stuff - Insignia, Westinghouse, visio - you know, the crap you've really never heard of.

Does Westinghouse sell re-branded stuff? They've been around a long time.

I've had pretty good luck with 5ish of their 32" LCD's. Good "value"- not best pic I would guess but fairly good for the price. Amazing how good things look when solo with a good signal going in it vs at the store side-by-side the one 3 times as much with it's own signal vs a shared one.

Just wondering- have read most of your post in the past and remember you naming them but can't recall why. Thanks for sharing your expertise!

Westinghouse name has been sold to an overseas venture.

PLEASE, please don't buy Vizio, Olevia, Westinghouse, Polaroid, Akai, Insignia or other "no name" products. They are basically the "Bayliner" or worse of the electronics industry.
If it breaks (it will - my repair shop has 33 Vizios as of today from folks that threw away their box) you'll never get parts.

For example: Vizio (any of the above brands) buys parts from whatever souce is the cheapest that week. So if you compare a Vizio 42 - same model #, you never know what suppliers parts are in it. When (not if) it breaks, they don't know what supplier sold them the parts.
They will not be around long, same thing will happen to them as happened to Gateway. Remember the Gateway plasma TV's? They were the cheapest available too. Find me one still working.

Thanks George!! :seeya:

With me being in the consumer electronics business for over 30 years - THAT remark :beatdeadhorse5: shows just how stupid and brain washed you really are.
You have absolutely no clue what happened, but - hey; lets blame it on George.

What a stupid F O C K you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they had a closing sale at circuit city here before christmas when i was looking at tv's....they were much higher than best buy where i ended up buying one...

the close out sales at the CC here had the items marked at suggested retail then a % off. Selling stuff higher priced than they originally did was not much of a sale

Believe it or not I've got 2 Gateways that are still working...one was a complete replacment under warranty (office conference room) the other has neve broken and is used constantly (bedroom)...not HD though.

I was just at super target looking at tv's. walked out saw the going out of biz signs at circuit city so we wandered in. %10 off but there prices were easily 40-50% higher!

I've had my eye on a surround sound system. I know the price now. Can't wait to see the "liquidation" price.

It's been a long time coming. They've been circling the drain for about 3 years with layoffs, management changes, and overall CFs. They are based right here in Richmond, and I've been calling on them for about 5 years total. They have never really had their chit together.

I went by CC this weekend and there were no real deals to be had. The cheap crap was marked down and the good stuff was retail priced....

They had a store by me. About 6 years ago, a new plaza opened up a couple miles away. Every big box retailer moved to there- except Circuit City. They chose to slug it out in a ghost town while Best Buy had their parking lot overflowing on busier days.
