Howdy perps! Yea, I move 600 freaking miles south only to get snowed on not once, not twice, but three times in two weeks. What the freaking heck?!?!
We ended up not leaving NH until Monday the 25th. I drove that dang blasted 26' UHaul truck in driving rain for the first several hours. Let me just tell you how much fun THAT was. We spent Tuesday looking at houses. Filled out the application, forked over our $70 application fee Wednesday morning only to have the woman call us at 3 to ask which house we wanted to apply for. So we tell her and think we will be moving in the next day. Oh what lofty aspirations we had. She calls us back about 3:30 on Thursday to ask which house we wanted again. Oh and by they way, they still hadn't even run the credit yet. WTF? 24 hours of doing not a dang thing? Seriously? Friday rolls around and we call her at lunch time. She still hadn't heard anything from the listing agent. She calls the listing agent, calls us back to tell us that the owner has been out of town and won't be back until Saturday. Meanwhile, all of our stuff is still sitting in the UHaul truck in Chuck's aunt's driveway. She did, however, say that she was going to recommend to the owner to rent to us. Well that's just ducky but let's get on the ball people! Saturday morning Chuck says screw it and goes ahead to the bank for the certified check they want for the deposit and first month's rent. While he's in the bank she calls and says that she is getting the lease ready, when do we want to come get it and the keys? And out of the generosity of their hearts, they aren't going to charge us pro-rated rent for the last 1.5 days of January. Finally we get to move in, in the snow of course, last Saturday. We didn't get cable and 'net until Wednesday and the 'net has been spotty. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Yippee.
On the good side, I have a job, I just don't know when I can start! All of the contracts are not quite in place yet, although work has started on a small scale. Which means I will have to go in and play catch up. The project is a bridge rebuild in DC, of which there are several. This one is scheduled for two years. I'll have about a hour's drive each way, but I should be working off times so I will miss a bunch of the traffic.
I have to say I have been getting my money's worth using the GPS on my Droid phone. I love it! Now if someone will stop the dang snowing, it will be perfect!
