Chicago: A world class Olympic city?...

That our society allows stuff like that to happen, when they knew all about the gangs in the area and that 34 kids had already been killed, blows me away. And this in the city where our President is from and the one that thinks they deserve the Olympics.

Before 2006, an average of 10-15 students were fatally shot each year. That climbed to 24 fatal shootings in the 2006-07 school year, 23 deaths and 211 shootings in the 2007-08 school year and 34 deaths and 290 shootings last school year.

I really don't get it.

Makes you wonder how these kids would turn out if they......

1) Have two parents at home
2) Are allowed to be disciplined without repercussions from the law
3) Have a school system that gives a damn
4) Would attended church

Looks like a community that could use an organizer...oh, no wait...it HAD an organizer...he's busy now screwing up the REST of the country.

This is the world we live in.

all city's have crime if you are in the wrong neighbor hood. With the state of the economy the way it is I think some new criminals are being created out of personal necessity.

C'mon Andy...you REALLY think the economy had something to do with what these morons did? I agree with your point, but in this case, it's just a bunch of heathen kids scoring negative on the morality scale.

Another boy critically beaten: 'Blood all over street'
October 1, 2009 7:25 AM

A 14-year-old boy in the city's Edgewater neighborhood was beaten and critically injured Wednesday night--suffering massive head trauma, police said.

"He was covered in blood. Blood was all over the street," said the woman who called police to the scene. "It was all over his face, arms and coming down the back of his head."

The unidentified victim was listed in critical condition at Children's Memorial Hospital undergoing surgery, police said.

Unlike the beating of 16-year-old Derrion Albert near Fenger High School--whose death outraged the city--this beating took place on the North Side and at night. The unidentified victim also was hanging onto life, although his skull had been fractured. Police said they had not yet been able to talk to him to get any leads.

A witness told police they saw the victim being chased by three males about 7:45 p.m. on the 6300 block of North Paulina Street, Chicago Police Lt. Paul Kusinski said.

After the three assailants caught up with the victim, all three beat him, and one reportedly struck him over the head using some type of "shiny" object, Kusinski said.

An Edgewater woman who wished to remain anonymous said she was driving home from work and looking for a parking space when she saw the teen lying in the road.

"He was covered in blood. Blood was all over the street. It was all over his face, arms, and coming from the back of his head. Two little girls and another kid were with him, holding him down. I called 911, and the police arrived shortly.

"The kids told me someone threw something at his head. They were very scared. One of them told me they called the police but said they hung up when asked too many questions. I don't know what really happened, just that the boy was chased. I just saw him when he was lying in the road. Usually this is a pretty quiet neighborhood. I don't usually come home to seeing a little kid lying in the road covered in blood"

Police have not yet made any arrests.

Perhaps some new Olympic sports could be devised from this behavior?

"The home team is almost certain to get the gold in the new Teen Beating event."

I see your point as well, but every major city has crime, some big, some small and some hate crimes what are you going to do. It is what it is. Chicago is the best city in the us imho!

Chicago is very cool, best in US arguable. It is probably one of the cleanest big cities out there. Winters got to be tough.......

Chicago is my favorite big city but it has neighborhoods I wouldn't approach with armed guards in daylight. Same goes for most cities.

I saw some really 'intersting' things working as an EMT in detroit.....the novel part was that if you called the cops at 4pm, they would show up by 4:03 pm, the next day....

I blame the crappy parents.

But on the subject of "Chicago: A world class Olympic city?" I say yes.

I don't like the O and O show... but frankly... I would like to see the Olympics come here and think that Chicago can handle the influx of people. It would be good for Chicago and for the midwest. Rather see them in Chicago than in Europe again.

just heard on Fox news that Chicago will NOT get the olympics. So glad we paid for that vaction for the Obama's.
