:cheers2:Brokerage Sales in January up From 2009,

Yacht brokerage sales results in the United States in January were higher than the same month a year earlier, but down somewhat from December 2009.

According to sales reported by industry brokers, unit sales improved over January 2009 by 29%, with 1,610 boats sold, and valuation of boats sold increased even more, by 42%, to $190.5 million. Despite those gains, the number of boats sold in January, compared to December, fell by 106 boats, and total valuation dropped by $53 million.

December and January are normally the weakest sales months of the year, based on average sales data from the last five years, with December weaker from 2005-2007 and January weaker in recent years. However, the number of boats sold in January 2010 slipped by another measure, dropping slightly below the five-year average, in contrast to sales in November and December 2009, which equaled or exceeded the five-year average.

On the plus side for many brokers, bigger boats continued to sell significantly better compared to the same month of the previous year. While sales of boats up to 55 feet long were up 25-30%, 66 boats over 55' changed hands, which represented a 78% increase from January 2009.

Powerboats led the increase in January, with a 30% increase in units and a 45% increase in valuation over January 2009. By comparison, sailboat sales improved by 26% in terms of units and valuation.

NMMA calls on Obama to clarify remarks about buying boats
Posted on February 03, 2010

The National Marine Manufacturers Association called on President Barack Obama to clarify his remarks made Tuesday in Nashua, N.H., that associated purchasing a boat with irresponsible spending.

The President made this off-the-cuff remark at a town hall event announcing his new Small Business Lending Initiative. The President has already apologized to Las Vegas for similar comments he made in the same speech.

"The recreational boating industry is one of the last remaining American manufacturing businesses and net exporters, contributing nearly $30 billion in new sales and services to our nation's economy each year, NMMA president Thom Dammrich said in a statement.

I THINK PAYING TAXES TO THE IRS IS IRRESPONSIBLE SPENDING TOO

Why cant the Government just issue a list of items that they deem as responsible purchases ...let those companys function and shut the rest down....

NO I WONT USE THE "R" WORD BUT IT SURE SEEMS APPROPRIATE

Don't be surprised if they just don't start doing that.
:(

On a positive note, I jut took a deposit on my Fountain after listing it a week earlier. Nice guy coming out from N.Y. in a couple weeks. Knock on wood I think it has a new home. :)

:USA:

.

We are extremely busy. 7 boats sold in the last couple weeks. While the Canadian market has been stronger than the US market, the US is certainly picking up. We shipped two Nor-tech cats in the US this week.

Great for you guys Peter

I have a guy coming to see my boat this weekend (depending on wx) and is going to leave a deposit.

Lets do the numbers here 1610 throughout the industry were sold according to the stats....if you didvide that up over the month that is 51.935483 boats a day. This number includes everything that they classify as a boat from a dinghy to a yacht. So boats over 55' totaled 66 which means that was 2.1290322 boats per day throughout the entire industry......How many boats are currently for sale in the industry????? The answer is 1000's of boats per day are for sale....

My point is that a few are starting to move some boats in our segment of the industry but they are severly discounted so the few that have money make a no brainer move to purchase a boat that has already taken the hit......I don't think the industry is well on its way to recovery yet boys and girls!!!!! The numbers have no choice but to increase as the industry is in the toilet....

If I didn't sell anything last month but something this month thats a substantial increase in sales.....

Sorry I will be more positive next weekend at the party trust me!!!!!
