Best Cat design Mike Peters?

It seems like Michael Peters design is dominating racing theses days with Mystic, Platinum, Victory (Class-1) and even Outerlimits building and using his design...I guess you can through CUV and Malstrom in there too...

What is so special about it? It seems the same basic design since it first cam out years ago. How does it differ from each builder? (other then length)

Is it the best cat design to date?

Once again, Mystics aren't MP boats.

He has a following in Class 1, his boats also fly backwards in Class 1 alot as well. That being said MTI won 2 races there this year against a whole fleet of MP boats.

No MP boat is competive in the US right now.

Didn't Mystic start off with a Peters design and then build theirs off of that design? Is Callen marine the same company as Mystic?

Negative, the original Callan Marine 48' cat was Jolly tencara, Mystic powerboats then built the 50' cat that set the record at the loto shootout at 209mph, they sold it to Geico, that boat was designed by John Cosker the owner of Mystic. It would be arguable to say which one is the best, how do you define best? fastest, safest, best ride, handling, etc. I would put Skater, Mti, Doug Wright, Nortech,Platinum,Mystic all among the top cat's in todays market.

Callan owned the tencara, Cosker throttled it. When Callan wanted a new boat, Cosker designed the 50. I am sure there are things both good and bad he learned from the Tencara, but if you have ever climbed through a Mystic you will realize its nothing like a tencara. The 50 was designed, CNC'd (by vectorworks) and built by Cosker.

Mystic has designed and built all kinds of vessels from the 50 cat to center consoles to 80 MPH 70' yachts.

The Mystic, was designed by John Cosker, founder of Mystic Powerboats. The Tencara was bought to race while the 50 was being built.

RIGHT :leaving:

Everybody knows what they are so you can put down the Mystic flag now...I'm sure Mr. Peters don't care if people copy his work.:sifone:

Cat guys

There is a hell of a difference between 'tweaking' a design to get a mile or two an hour, and inventing a whole new vehicle. Original cat guys, Ron Jones, James Beard, Mike Peters, Peter Hledin, George Linder, Rich Luhrs, etc., had more failures than successes. When Beard and Curtis hired me as prez of Cougar, USA, they brought over a bunch of extremely fast, delicate wooden cats which broke up on race courses all over the country, to the point that the Coast Guard was going to fine me for littering. The good news was that we never made two the same. Every one was faster and stronger that the last. Thanks to the bravery of our customers, we were able perfect a new vehicle. Nobody in the boat business is smarter (or nicer) than John Cosker. John has 'gone his own way' in design and construction. Most all the cars and airplanes look alike. There is a good reason for that. Don't expect a 300 mph cat any time soon............

I thought I rememebered Pepe saying that Peters had something to do with the twin step bottom on the 35' Pantera race boat. Anyone confirm that?

didn't he do some stuff 4 Cig also???
Yes he did and we did the work at Skater . I have the orginial design done by M P Y D , Michael Peters Yacht Design for CIGARETTE Racing Team , Inc 45'raceboat ,step insert and typical canopy done in 1998 ,design 192 drawing #3 , Scale 3/4=1'0' that came off Peter Heldin's desk that was headed for the trash can and seeing that we at Douglas Marine did the work and i personally had a hand in this i decided to keep the original design .:)
