Apache Free-for-all Thread

You probably read one of the many threads in this section where people yak incesently about 20 year old boats, that need 3X the horsepower than anything else to make them go , sorta like a walk down memory lane or being a member of the Edsel Car Club.

Tastes differ. Some people like heavy boats with a great ride and big power. Some people like fish boats with four eggbeaters. :D

I like what I like because the water I boat on demands it. If I lived out west and boated on a river I would have a shallow cat. But I live next to a nasty lake with steep, closely spaced waves. Heavy is good. Overbuilt is just a bonus. And big power is... well... fun. :)

I can tell from my experience that Benny is tough,smart, and definitely a larger-than-life figure. Even in the time warp of prison, he is very,very sharp and has incredible stories.
His focus,as it should be, is to get out. While he was no angel, he was definitely handed a a sentence that was excessive(my opinion) and he has taken one for the team,so to speak. MM said it well that he is a standup guy.
IMHO..I would take Benny any day as a back up...

Apache to Ben was his toy..I mean building boats and the boat business.
In his grand scheme of life,offshore was his passion and his recreation...not a way to make a living.
Apache was not a profit driven enterprise for him and most likely,he lost money..but, he loved the sport.
Benny made an indelible impression on me as did Billy Elswick..two enigmatic characters

Just my opinion...

Basically drug money funded Apache under his watch, what's so grand about that ? Today he probably would be hooked up with the scum in Mexico.

It's in my V-berth and Bill had it added to the transom and the fairing.

What about it?

I had a problem with a bottom once.... 7 ft section of the keel/chine had to be reomoved and when fixed it was actually better than new..... I blueprinted it while it was being fixed and picked up 2-3 mph... That was before digital camera's....

Blood sweat and tears....;)

Well I had an idiot in Michigan that screwed up minor repairs(emphasis is on minor..cosmetic) and made them worse by grinding them out and not filling correctly.
Fixed the boat correctly and sold the boat. The owner calls me every now and then and tells me how much he loves it..

Funny..Bobby built boat with Benny's logo. They are mixed all over the place.
When Bobby and Benny split, they each had there own logo.

Bobby=Rueben-from an oar company
Benny=El Indio-from a matchbox in Columbia
