Anybody use a canopy or a carport for boat parking?

I just had a 12x80 x4" pad done for $2300 thats with me doing 100% of the prep work, base agg, grade, drains ect.

Theres lots of "residential" type concrete guys who are hungry right now, dont be affraid to call around and ask. if you can do all the prep work yourself you will probably get a quote over the phone, if not they will probably need to see it first. Estimates are usually free.
Thanks Tony.
My neighbor kept widening his driveway all summer. He now has a really nice parking lot. (4 car wide apron and parking area.) I'll ask him too. Maybe I can do something 10 x 30 for around a grand. That and canopy would solve my summer problems. Winters are spent in a buddy's warehouse.

What will a 10 by 28 concrete pad cost me? I know you are an asphalt guy, but I'll bet you know.

I had a mixer truck delivered back in 9/09 and it was $1054. I think it was 9 yards- heard some where that is where the term "the whole 9 yards" comes from. That was just the concrete and delivery charge with the guy pouring it fairly consistent (less labor getting it finished off). 2 guys, 2 day job was around $600 labor with some footer work done (was base for brick patio).

24ish x 26ish by 4ish inches deep IIRC

I just bought this one off craigslist for $200 I had to raise it 2' using 1 5/8" top rail for chain link fence and its a little short but it keeps the snow off the important part. We just had 18" of snow and some wind and thing is still standing. rhinoshelters.com

fund razor you should be able to find some one local to do it for around $3.50 sq.ft. Concretes around $100 per yrd. Your looking at 5.5 yrds @ 6" thick so you would have to pay a lite load charge. You could get stamped and colored for around $12. If you where closer I could hook you up I know a lot of concrete finishers laid off right now. If your up around the perry nuke plant we have a job coming up this spring up there.

Thanks. The house is about 45 miles west of Perry near I-80/90. So you are recommending 6 inch for my purpose? (Boat is 9000#, truck is 9000#)

Depends on your soil. Down here on clay I am going with 5" expecting to be pulling a Kenworth Toter home and 48' race trailer on it. It is also built to carry a 48,000 lb motor home.

I am on clay too. Hard, heavy clay. You can dam near use it for pottery. The lawn hates it. I keep adding topsoil and sand mix when I do the core aeration in the fall.

So hard that the boat can sit for months and not sink into the lawn more than an inch.

I used 6" thats what I'm used to. We pour commercial drive aprons using that with no wire. But I build roads so everythings thicker. 4" would proably work for your application but addition 2" is only 1.8cy more which is roughly $200 in material, labor is the same no matter what thickness. Some people might try and charge more for additional excavation, most will use it for a selling point to get the job.

I'm pouring 9000 sq ft of concrete with lots of rebar. In my case the extra inch is a consideration:cheers2:

Great thought, like most boatyards.
But the city doesn't count that as "paved." They are now ticketing people for parking cars on gravel driveways. I know.... I know...

Carty is gone....Bell is in.......I hope those days are gone!!:cheers2:

Ok, I am sold on a concrete pad. No question.

Maybe what I will do, is install some "sockets" into the ground using larger diameter fence tubing and then slip some side post extensions into those, and the side posts from a canopy into that. That would give me stability and I could gain a foot or two. This canopy is 12x30 with a 9'6" center height. My boat is not super tall on the trailer, having nothing that sticks up like a pesky windshield or anything. If I raised it to 10'6" I'll bet I would be happy. Probably 400 bucks. In the winter I could take it down, put it in a shed, and park my truck on the pad and cover it.

They're not. The city is broke. They will climb into our pockets any way that they can.

Red light cameras. Still got em.

"Trash" fee. Still got it.

Stupid zoning tickets. Still got it.

Meanwhile all of Bell's people got raises from us. :cuss:

Oh sure, make fun of it now...it used to be your dream boat. :D :D

12' wide at a minimum. Think about if you wanted to do trailer maintenance and needed room for a jack, and to lay down.

LOL.......Westwood Red light/Speed Camera around UT.....

Just for this purpose, I mounted my plates with magnets ........late at night when I'm heading home and the road is empty, it take about 15 seconds to stop, remove my plates :leaving:and run the green light at 100+mph.......another 15 seconds to stop and put the plates back on:leaving:

Yes.....I love the :icon_bs:laws!!!

BTW.....New Penalty for renewing plates and Driver's licenses = late by one day (most cases 'Birthday' not end of month like many people think) is a $20 penalty for each one by the State of Ohio.

I'm trying to get an answer if this applies to boat registration renewals .... March 1st.

if it applies to boat registration......a lot of people are going to be pissed!!!:boxing_smiley:

i bought the 89$ 20ft shed and added some extra support with wood and 2 yrs later its still holding up well , this week i had at least 20 inchs of snow on it at times

It's actually late by 7 days, $20.00 for DL and $20.00 for each registration. I have four plated vehicle. That's a 100.00 possible hit. I will be on time. :D

I've never been late anyway. They provide you with the date that these things expire. You just show up at the DMV with a check book. Not rocket science.
