any home heating an AC service guys on here?

Got a furnace issue i need some help on. I went out to the lake house last weekend and found my furnace was not working. Turned off the power and re set it, let it fire up and cycle for a few minutes and when the blower went to come on it just hummed and kicked a high limit switch (bushings were shot). Pulled the motor and went and bought a new one and took it out this afternoon and installed it. Re set every thing and fired it up again, blower came on fine but a few minutes later kicked a high limit code again. Its a propane fired unit and when i pulled the motor last week i also shut off the water to. Do these have water in the heat exchanger or something like that? its got some kinda pump (looks like a bilge pump) and a few lines on the side that appear to go in and out of the exchanger. Heres a few pic of it. It also didnt seem to be kicking out to much air when it was trying to come on either.

pics, any thoughts?

It is a condensate pump, 1 is from the a/c coil pan and the other is from the furnace heat exchanger (hi efficiency only) they usually just run to a floor drain, if one is not near they install the condensate pump to pump the water to a drain or washtub. They don't need water, they make it.

I'm guessing wrong rotation of the motor. It'll still move air, but not enough, tripping the high limit.

And check the filter, maybe it's clogged.

Proper sevice practice is to change the capacitor at the same time as the motor. If your digital multi meter has it you can test the cap. But first step is to change the cap. That should be your issue. I have done the same thing once before because I did not have the right cap on the truck lesson learned.

check the flux capacitor :)

that seems to be functioning ok, woke up this morning and it was 1956 :D

Well, thanks for the suggestions. It appears the squirrel cage fan is turning in the wrong direction. Luckily there is an arrow on the side and sure enough going the wrong way. Is it possible to switch some wires or something and reverse this motor? I know little about AC motors (other then dont stick your finger in them to see which direction they are running . . . at least i know that now :D)

I believe so, but a good question for Mac. There's a reason they don't let me play with AC:o

yep problem solved, i pulled the motor back out and there are two jump wires that just needed to be switched (per little diagram). Work'in like a mo-fo now. :cool:

I shouldn't mess with AC . . . 1956 . . . .or spinning fans :willy_nilly::D

Thanks all, would'a cost a small fortune to have a service guy come all the way out here . . . .

Yes, you can reverse the rotation of the motor. Look on the motor nameplate, the directions are there. It's just switching two wires.

whos Bill? :sifone:

I think the furnace might have been having issues last season as well. This place heats up quick now. I only come out here on weekends (more so in the winter when its desolate and the lakes froze:D) and i keep the temp around 48-50 during the week when i'm not here. I use to have to go to the corner bar for a few hours while the place comes up to temp. Thought it was just the size of the place but now I'm thinkin it was having a speed problems last winter. :cool:

Good to hear Dave! the new motors are pretty sweet with the reverse rotation wires. Now you need a steam humidifier for the cabin so you feel like your on the lake in the summer.
