I think the 383 with 1:65 would be a nice package. The boat would have a nice balance.
If you are going to spend the money for new motors you might as well look into complete packages. You may be able to find a good boat show, year end, or left over deal. That way you get the proper ratios and you can sell off the present drives rather than paying to change the gears.
2112,for some boaters that would be just fine hey I am happy with 65-70 mph top end. I am happy to be on the water, just cruising! For the record when I was looking at the Sunsation with out power I was looking at the 383's.

I think it will be much easier getting more cubic inches than swapping out everything else. Although, I did give some though to swapping the drives for some plain jane Bravos since I dropped so much $ into these to toughen them up.
I have a couple 454 385HP Mag EFI's. Merc remans still in crate (longblocks). $3500 each. If you could find some sort of take outs or piece together all the accessories for carbureted or EFI, you could have fresh reliable power for low $$$.

496's won't bolt in place of where 454's were. The exhaust hole placement in the transom for thru-hull exhaust are different. 496's are wider. If the 454's were at 34" or 35" centers, then the 496's will be touching each other.
