Advice needed on rigging prior to sale

I think your best bang for the buck would be on a pair of low hour 496HO or 496HO Mag take outs.

How wide are those compared to 454 standard deck height motors?

I have heard that suggestion form several sources.

.

Only sale I know for sure for a 98' was with 400 hours on hull, engines and drives and sold for just under $50K, Not sure it included a trailer. Seemed in decent condition.

.

You have mint stuff so you should be able to sell it.... A better avenue would be to see if other members think your boat supports your asking price....

What would you want for the boat as is?

What would you ask for a 383 boat?

What would you ask for a blue motor 500 boat?

The answers may persuade you to go in a different direction. I also believe those 383's are remanufactured engines (6.2- 377's bored out) since Merc doesn't offer a new 383 in their line up.

With the way your stuff looks someone will be lucky to have that 32 as is.

Thanks Jim,

I expected to need to put her together for someone. Both because most people don't want project (or finance them) and to get the best $ out of her.

I have pictures in my gallery (with out hatch on).

You are right on the remanufactured part but still merc and warrantied.

I can't even put a price on the blue motor boat since a warrantied pair will be $50K(plus) and I don't think a 32' supports that.

I guess I was thinking mid to high $50s with two new 383efi warrantied motors, on the myco, never in salt. Single digit hours on everything else.

You are on track to sell it for sure......that would be a great package for reasonable money. Didn't realize you were looking for warranty all of the power options (500's with warranty would overprice the boat).

Well, I think you are seeing my issue.

"As is" can be a stretch for all the reasons mentioned, either you have to fire sale it or wait for that one person who can bring a project to fruition and wants a 32'. Blue motors in this particular boat overprice it. Yes, I think blue motors are a perfect match for someone who wants to keep the boat for many years.

I guess I did not put much credence in "take out" blue motors since they are still somewhat expensive but have no warranty and may be abused.

496HOs have been mentioned too and are an interesting proposition. They bump the price a little but not astronomically if the prices that have been mentioned are true.
They are probably a better match, performance wise but it walks a fine line in getting the price high enough that I have to sit on it for some time.

I'd sell it less power and be done with it. Lot's of hp boaters have their own engine builders. Place ads on CraigsList , etc and try that 1st.

it's definitely worth a call (941) 355-7852‎, I don't think you will find 500 turnkey efi HP anywhere else cheaper.

i have to agree with Sean call Inovation and ask about 2 vortecs, it will run great, cost effective, easer to finance. and now it,s trun key, it will only cost a call,,good luck,,like Jim said time is on your side..george jr

2112, I am in the market for a boat as we speak. I have looked at alot of boats and a few without power. You're thinking is correct that it will be a harder sail:) without power. I love boating, found boats without power started to do some home work what it would take to get some motors and said forget it, I was getting confused did not want to hassle with someones junk motors, and the time to put it all in I would rather be on driving the boat. Most of the time you buy the hull and buy motors and you're way upside down that is what has kept me away. I would not shy away from the 383 because I don't really drive that fast rather cruise and fuel economy is what I would be thinking with that power combo. I was looking at a 32' with 5.7's the boat is spotless but the boat really can't sell because of that, if it had the 383 I am sure the boat would be gone.

Sunsation96,

Thanks, that is what I was thinking might be the conventional wisdom. I will admit, selling as is would be easier for me. It would just need that perfect buyer.

What are you shopping for? Were the boats that you looked at without power otherwise pristine or did they need lots of other work beyond the engines?

.

I would advertise it now without power since you have all off season and see what happens. Worse case it doesn't sell. As already stated, keep an eye on the market for a good set of Merc. takeouts where someone is upgrading but don't spend too much just to sell it. How much aggravation is a few thousand dollars more worth. I sold my 29' Kryptonite with power and before that my 22' Donzi without. As it was the Donzi sold quicker.

3rd option... for sale w/o motors.. buyer provides/gets engine and you install..

This is kind of what I was thinking. Like a "Will Build to Suit" kind of deal. List the boat as is or "will power to suit." Let the potential buyer pick out the engines. Maybe someone wants a boat like this but doesn't have the cash to buy the hull and the engines. Because god knows know one is getting a personal loan these days to buy engines. So you create a contract stating that you will power the boat the way they want it and in the end the buyer finances/pays outright, etc... for the whole turnkey boat. Everybody is happy:willy_nilly:

So, let's consolidate.

Boat is essentially new. 7 hours on hull, 5 on transom hardware. Cuddy never used for anything. Extremely upgraded 1:36 Bravos. Hydromotives. Latham. No salt water. Myco with stainless/surge brakes. Coast Guard Registered. etc.

Boat does 70 with 330 7.4L

I was thinking of asking around $58K with the new warrantied 383s.

Maybe low 40's as is, need motors only.

Maybe $65K with new 496 Vortecs (still checking on prices).

If you want something else, we can readily calculate how that could figure in for a total.

Am I way off base?

For comparison: 3.5 years ago I sold a 1998 31 single stepped Formula (comparable boat) with 502 mags and all the goodies. This was a good clean boat with about 70 hours on complete rebuilds (400 on the hull). Listed at $64K, then down into the hi-mid $50K's......ended up taking $52K. Remember, 3.5 years ago was a better market...but it was Sept when it sold.

I like the list w/o OR will add your power of choice. If the right deal on motors comes along then snag them and modify your ad. 496 take-outs would be prefered IMO. A buddy picked up a PAIR of used but good compression carbed 500's recently for $10K. Even though they aren't warrantied, seemed like a pretty good deal to me.

I agree the take outs keep costs down, but I think warrantied power really has some pulling power with many buyers. I guess I pretty much know what I would like for it as is so If I find some great take outs, I can just adjust the price accordingly, just as I did for the new motors.

Thanks for the historical input.

Yes selling as is would be awesome but I would have to think that most of the masses would rather buy a boat with the power and good to go rather than the easter egg hunt for power IMO. With that being said I did see some 496's on OSO but they may be gone. But the warranty just gives the buyer a piece of mind and it gives the seller some ammo too. Now getting to me shopping I have been looking at alot. I sold the Sunsation this year and have been on the hunt, but I am being a little picky about the new one seeing that I will own it for some time. I looked at the Sunsation @ Shogren 32' before it went there but when you added the cost of engines it went above the value. 2112 my thought on this is you will get the motor money spent out of the boat when it sells but will you make more money maybe not but I on the flip side it will sell faster. Hey post some pics of this boat.
