43 GT Build

Do you know what the drop is on the 7's? Are they all 16", or did they make them differently?

From input gear to output gear centerline it measures just over 6 inches on the drop boxes I have. Not sure exactly how Arneson calculates the drop measurement. After talking with Rik it has been identified that the drop boxes I have are actually ASD6's and there is little difference between the 6 and 7. The main differnce is the chain/gear set. This set of drives I bought came with three gear/chain sets. A pair of chain sets which will go in the trash since they are rated for much lower hp/torque and a gear to gear set which I will most likely be using.

Thanks, I think it will be pretty awesome myself! The baddest BT??? I'm not sure of that, there are many that are pretty bad. One of the baddest, sure I'd like to think so. As far as the motors, sticking with what I have for now. i will be pretty happy if they get me to the 105ish mark.

Jason P, Are you guys going to run yours more than one event this year or what!!?

Did you change the dropboxes?

No, I plan to use what I have. The drives will still be at the factory centerline. The 6 dropboxes from what I am told are similiar to the 7's and can be fitted with the larger components.

Another observation I've made since I am going with the large 1500 drysump transmissions they will not fit in the extension boxes due to the deep dry sump pan. This will cause me to move the engines slightly forward. Keep in mind these are early assumptions I've made with minimal measurements. Hope to get the boxes mounted at the 1 inch above the bottom of the boat at drive centlerline recomendation from Rik soon.

I would think you'd be at or under the 15% slip though, so you should be fairly accurate with your number.

Agreed with Paul. I thought SSM props pull lower slip numbers than bravo style. Who knows though, I know of a pair of BTs, one with a quoted bunch more power and SSM props that doesn't run much better than its 699hp bravo brother.

I think we are around 15% at 139. But it was still accelerating, so the prop hadn't fully caught up yet, probably at least another 5mph to let the prop catch up.

Here is a pic of the cylinders torn down that I will be rebuilding and having re-chromed. I am waiting for a tool to come in so I can finish. I will most likely be bringing them to the chrome shop on Friday. They stated it takes like 4-6 and sometimes 8 weeks to get items chromed.

I found out some additional info which I feel like a complete dumba$$ since I didn't realize it in the beginning. Since I have 3 gear/chain sets it was a little confusing to why there was three and how reverse rotation is achieved with the parts I have gotten for this basket case. So one drive will be gear to gear and the other will be chain driven. The chain drives I received are rated for much lower HP so I will be replacing them with the proper set.

Ya, I was wondering about that! Haha!
