Muskegon Powerboat Weekend features some of the Great Lakes fastest boats

MUSKEGON - Some of the fastest boats on the Great Lakes are in Muskegon this weekend.

Friday night, those powerboats are on display near Hackley Park. The boats and their owners are participating in Muskegon Powerboat Weekend.

Several of the boats are capable of speeds in excess of 100-miles-an-hour. Saturday the boats will start near downtown and race in a poker run.

Roger Zuidema says, "Then they are going to go down and head up towards Whitehall, so if you are at the channel around twelve o'clock that would be a wonderful and then at 4:45 p.m. there is going to be a parade of the Lake Express, Port City Princess, and 80-of these boats and it is just going to be awesome."

While there are no formal events scheduled for Sunday, organizers of the weekend expect the powerboats to be circling Muskegon Lake periodically on that day too.

The Saturday event raises money for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

The Saturday run started out at 10:30 at the Mart Dock for the Captain's meeting. There were very few missing, a couple boats had early problems, and the weather looked to be perfect for even the smaller boats to do the entire run. No one was gonna get beat up on this day.
