The Monroe County Sheriff's Office was looking for homes for some of the more than 150 law enforcement families left homeless by Hurricane Andrew.

The two men aboard the commercial fishing boat Little Audrey escaped injury when a bolt of lightning blew the wheelhouse completely out of the boat.

Did you see that, i saw that 6wks after,. i still can't quite find the words to describe that scene, or the feeling in the air.

Ann Lorraine Labriola popped a bottle of champagne underwater to celebrate the end of her three-year project on an underwater sculpture called Stargazer.

Cuban refugees were being dropped on the Keys by an illegal taxi service from Cuba. The dropoffs were part of large increase, with the most arrivals in one month since the Mariel boatlift of 1980.
 
Low Key Production, filming the Fox TV series "Key West," was working on Higgs Beach for two days.

The owner of Southern Key Cemetery said the Key West City Cemetery was desecrating graves by moving bodies to the area for paupers.



President Kennedy decided to clamp down, where possible, on those engaged in trade with Cuba by closing all U.S. ports to ships of countries that traded with the island nation.
 
A man who claimed another man hit him on the head with a chain settled his "pain and suffering" claim for $5.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office fired two deputies and disciplined four other employees for their conduct on a trip with juvenile cadets to Tampa.

The Monroe County Career Service Board ruled that the county should demoted a man who hired his girlfriend without the bid process instead of firing him.

For the third time in a month, a boat dropped Cuban refugees on a Key West beach and left, in an illegal smuggling operation.
 
Key West attorney Fred Butner was found dead on the second-floor roof of the La Concha after he jumped from the seventh floor. In the suicide, he tried to blame his legal aide for his murder.


This guy set up a tape recorder on the roof and then acted out his "Murder" by yelling out the Aide's name and pretending to struggle with someone as he jumped off the roof......freaking hilarious.:rofl:
 
A burglar fell into a pool when surprised by the intended victim, but got away before police arrived.
 
Former City Commissioner Harry Powell was arrested for trespassing on Peary Court. He had chained himself to his Conch cruiser bicycle to protest the impending housing development.

It was reported that about 30 anti-Castro Cubans were holding military training on No Name Key.




U.S. Sen. George A. Smathers was in the city to attend a rally in his honor and called for the overthrow of Castro by military force if required.
 
An undercover Key West police investigation of nude dancing resulted in the arrest of seven women for allegedly performing illegal "lap dancing" and other sex acts
 
The Cuban state newspaper reported that Ernest Hemingway's boat, the Pilar, had been restored and was on display at his La Vigia Estate near Havana.

The Adderley house on the Crane Point Hammock property in Marathon was put on the National Register of Historic Places.

About two dozen dogs left stranded in South Dade County by Hurricane Andrew had been placed in homes in the Keys. There were nine dogs still looking for a temporary home.

Authorities in the Upper Keys were looking for a 150-pound "wolf-dog" which had escaped its owner.

50 YEARS AGO

A U-2 flight over Cuba confirmed the presence of Russian long-range surface to surface nuclear missile sites.

Mitzi, the movie star porpoise, flew to Nassau for the filming of the movie "Flipper."
