New toy.

i feel much safer on 4 wheels as opposed to 3. just a personal preference, but i have always found 3 wheelers much more "tippy." that said, i have run my own foot over several times on my quad. it hurts, but oh well, its why i started wearing boots.

I have ran myself completely over with one of these. I still cant figure out how!:sifone:

I raced motocross as a kid so I know (knew) what I was doing on a bike- or so I thought.

Coming in late one night and feeling NO pain, I dropped my buddy off. He opened his garage door and there sat one of those pieces of $hit. Of course I had to stop and look. He picked it up at a yard sale that previous afternoon- got a great deal. He one-kicked it and it fired right up. Of course I had to "take it for a spin". Here I am, half-pickled and blazing down his suburban street at 3:30 AM. I got out of the throttle and went to turn in the intersection a block down. Of course it didn't turn- even slightly. The front tire just hopped across the pavement. So I did what any motorcyclist would do- I shifted my weight forward and into the turn. And I stuck my left foot out. The next thing I remember was the sound of quiet- and pain. Turns out you are SUPPOSED TO LEAVE YOUR FEET ON THE PEGS! I missed that part. When I stuck my foot out it caught my heel and sucked me right off and under than SOB- slammed me right to the pavement then drove over me. I was not pleased. Last time I was ever on one.

That's funny.

In the 1000 Islands on Grindstone (where police are non-existent) there are all sorts of unregistered vehicles. It always amazes me when I see 3-4 and sometimes more kids hangning off a 3 wheeler! My experience on 3 wheels has not been pleasant but commend those who dare.

I simply prefer even numbered wheeled vehicles:)

Well as far as running you feet over, there is a simple fix that wll make that MUCH more difficult to do. For about 15 bucks you can get the JL foot peg extenders whick angle up at the end of the pegs or weld on something similiar. Roll footpegs are EXCELLENT.

Now for the 3 vs. 4 debate.. once you ride a quad that has been tricked out and dialed in, your mind will change. A quad with aftermarket a-arms, axle and shocks that have been dialed in is unreal. I have ridden tricked out 3 wheelers with severe pucker factor of 80 and gone down te same trail on a trick 4 wheeler at 100 and was looking for another gear. Stock with a talented rider they are comparable, aftermaket the 4 wheeler will crush a 3.

Had a 250R 3W. That dude was awesome. Most 3W do suck but that one had so much power you steered with the throttle!

Found this reply in a thread on a three wheeler forum I've been reading. It's a reply about the consent decree that the manufacturers had. He had some good points in his reply. There was a lot more going in at that point in time to help give these things a bad name.

The following is a copy and paste....

It was called a "consent decree". The manufacturers consented to stop manufacturing trikes in order to avoid a lawsuit. Blackmail ? Yes, but the manufacturers had economic incentives. More expensive and therefore more profitable machines (Quads) were sold as a result.

Trikes are harder to master than Quads or Motorcycles. Trikes also had a dangerously seductive association in parents' minds to Tricycles, giving a false appearance of safety to buyers and end users, thereby compounding the inherent danger that much more. The inherent stability in a trike exploits a counter-intuitive predisposition on the operator that consistently causes injuries. Mainly, the instinct to attempt to counter a "high-side" rollover by placing the outside foot down in the path of the rear wheel. That, combined with prevaling attitude of the time which had little regard for safety.

Recently on this site, a member posted pictures of three wheeler enthusiasts from the trike era. Most of these pictures showed individuals jumping and racing trikes without helmets or pads. Others showed children drinking beer at the riding sites, presumably during the rides! Having been a trike enthusiast in the '70's Myself, I can attest to the fact that that was the norm in my social circles!

It makes Me laugh whenever people today try to dispute the rightfulness of the consent decree.
