The Day SVL Died

Yea MD i did post earlier where to send it and how we would refund if we are not able to raise the money. We are using Doug Grimaldi as a third party and would like to send the funds to his pay pal account at arushracing@yahoo.com

Thanks MD hope to see you there

Ok how bout the rest of you?

I just sent $150 via PayPal........

As of now we are 850 shy if everyone comes through. I am calling it off at 9:00 pm et time tonight. Kinda sucks because unless I am mistaken if Typhoon doesnt show there will only be one svl boat at the worlds.

nothin for nothin but if you guys bail out over $850 , that is pretty chicken $hit.......

I think the issue is "If everyone comes through".......

As I said, I'm in. Just chatted with Colby a bit ago. I think they are even closer now "If everyone comes through"......

So let's finish this. I'll get some kind of contest going if it comes off with a couple of prizes for something, like the winner and total margin of victory over the three races. Posted times by SBI to be the official ruling. Maybe a pair of Tee's or something.....

Like Ratickle said Randy and myself have contributed most of the money for the race and are certainly not bailing out over small amounts of money. Yes we are a little closer to our goal now 700 to go in 8 hrs.

Hey Ratickle, how bout the winner gets to shave the losers head, wait I've never seen Miklos without a hat on.Does he even have any hair?

Colby,

I thought that the Pirates,Bob M , Doc and Georgie were going!

Why would they not?

Is it because Schleussberg is on the loose?

I remember back in 2003 in Ft.Lauderdale.
Schleussberg and Murray had just taken delivery of their 2003 black ,27 foot Kryptonite.

Anyways it was big boy water, I say easy 4 maybe 6 footers.

The SVLs started in front of the Factory 1 boats and by the 3/4 way Schleussberg and Mark/Gino had passed all the SVLs. (I believe there were 3 or 4).

I think the Randy and Mark were both running 525s.

Schleussberg delaminated his boat and was in the lead but I am not sure if he got caught at the end? Maybe Gino can set it straight.

Was an awesome Offshore Race!!!!

Bad news Steve looks like I will be handing it back over to Sean and you guys will be duking it out in Jersey. We just lost an 800 dollar commitment which puts us 1500 out. Just don't see it happening. I will still give it till 9:00pm tonight just in case something happens. You never know!!

Lavey was in the lead and both got ejected going into turn 1 right in front of us... both guys were in the water just passed turn 1 and on the course....
We stoped and Mark put his boat in front of both crew members to block anyone coming around the turn since we were the first boat on the seen and till they got them both back into the med boats...after they were in the boats( about 2 to 3 minutes) were started back up and finished...I remember looking right into K Copper's eyes as he was floating...they both look like they were out of it....I believe there gimble broke going into the turn....

That was the same race that the How Sweet it is boat stuffed and ended up in pieces...
I remember that race well..
Mark like to try new things on the boat and try differant set ups.....since it was a divisional race he put on a 5 blade prop to see what it would do.....We never race with one before...
After that...he never put a 5 blade back on...

That was a fun race though....nasty water...but the Worlds in Orange Beach on Sunday that year was ruff..

Question....and not to beat a dead horse...since it looks like Doc maybe the only SVL in K.W.
If SBI is not doing any ECM checks.and have not heard of OPA's rules.and there are rummors of some guys turning 6000rpms....
Why not let the Ilmor 625 in and turn the same 6000rps and seal the motors with both Orgs having the right to pull the engines at any time to make sure there is fair play...
With this 525 now turning 6k....with a hot ECM...so they say...what is the life of a 525 doing that and at 6k what is the HP being put out..maybe around 625....and with the Ilmor turning 6k and proven longevity doing that....could that maybe help out...
I understood the hole thing about the 525 sealed engine going against the Ilmor 625...but with all this talk of 6k being turned..that should put both engines in parity....
And I beleive in OB Bob T said that Merc would help out with a refresh program on there 525's for $8500...
Well if you could sell you 525 which I'm not sure what the going price is for a used one these days...maybe 15k-20k pending hours...plus the $8500 to refresh...Would that give some teams some incentives to put in a new proven Ilmor that can turn 6k all day long...and then of any parity needs to be applied make some small adjustments...either way...it would be no were the problem of todays 525's truning 5450 to 525's turning 6k...

Hey Gino, Im with you on the Ilmor. I did speak to JC a while ago regarding the Ilmor. His response was that if Ilmor sent in the specs and applied for the use of this motor for competition it would be considered. I think regardless of whether or not any competitors choose the Ilmor as a power package they should still go for the approval. I for one, throughout the entire cash spending frenzy during the boat build had the hardest time laying out for the new 525EFI. Even during unboxing the motor, which is normally an exciting time, the feeling of RAPE stuck with me the entire time. $8500 for a refresh on this particular motor is still not doing anyone any favours.

I will be curious to see the new OPA rules for the class as far as authorized facilities allowed to do refreshs on the 525s. Gary Smith from Carolina Racing Engines down here can do a complete rebuild on the 525 for $5500-$6000 and that is for every bit of what you will get at Inovation or Mercury.
