I didn't know that. But the kid I posted did his on the first day of the official release to the general public.

$500 is a lot of money to most of America and we are in a recession......Now I support the fact people should be allowed to do whatever they want with their money but this was just stupid!
Makes you wonder if this kid had a hobby if he would do something so dumb. Wonder if he was standing at a boat ramp with $500 in cash and bought himself a ride on a go fast boat for an hour if he would think that is a better use of his time and money?

i like to act juvenile from time to time, but I cannot find one bit of humor from the act of destroying a cool piece of technology just just to say that you did it.

Back in college I spent $500 on a 1967 Chrysler Newport. Me and buddies spent the next couple of weeks jumping it (got 30 yards and never lost a hubcap), cutting the roof off with a cutting torch, spray painting flames on it, hitting dumpsters etc. You know the stickers you get every time you buy an aftermarket part? We put dozens of those all over that car. Even got insurance on it to drive around town. Ever seen a cop double over laughing after pulling someone over? Finally died like a month later and called the junk yard to pick it up. Probably the funnest $500 I ever spent.
Seems a bit silly to me to destroy the iPad like that but it's not really any different than what I did. To each his own I suppose.
