I have a cousin I bet is in the 99.9% bunch. He has been the reigning chess champion of his state for many years. He's the same age as me, and when all us cousins went to Grandma's house, the rest of us boys would be running the woods. Donnie would be reading a book, or studying his chess moves. My dad said Uncle Robert (Donnie's dad)was the same way. They didn't have electricty on the farm, and Uncle Robert would be reading books by candle light.
