HD Camera In Boat Filming Question

I have a SONY HDR-XR200 camera ( http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665736696 )that I have taken on a lot of rides on the MTI but it seems that the camera has so many electronic image stabilization and auto focus features that it just chases itself focusing and anti vibrating on rides, making it a less than stellar video experience.

I have turned the image stabilization off which helps and this morning I messed with the auto focus and turned that off and will try that but man it is driving me crazy.

I have a hard mount to the cockpit which I could rubberize but I am not sure if it would help...

Anyone with knowledge and worthwhile suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
GL

When it is held by hand it does a good enough job;

But we went out yesterday for a ride and once the boat gets running it is just blurred to sh!t!!! ;

Check with Freeze and 2TR to see what they know. I'm guessing the location has something to do with it and as the camera moves, it is trying to auto focus between the inside of the cockpit, the water, and the horizon. Just a guess though....

GLH ...you are a impulsive buyer :rofl:.....can`t wait to have mine ...i have some project to fit it in this slow hull :sifone:

The GoPro camera works really nice for this sort of thing. And they are cheap.

Here is video of the one I used. It is much better quality before Youtube degrades it. The suction cups hold on to 160 mph so far. This video was 110 mph in very rough water. I am pleased with the camera. Watch how much the deck is flexing. Chip will video for about an hour.

Maybe the bulkhead isnt the best spot to mount the camera? Might want to call Freeze Frame to see how he mounts his on board cameras

I can transfer that to DVD I will try it tonight and see on the big flat screen, but the 1080P deal should be even better. Can't wait to try it.

Gl, I use this camera: Canon Vixia HFS10 HD Dual Flash Memory. I does a decent job on image stabilization but all the heavy lifting for video editing is done on a Mac. I don't know how it would work if it were mounted to a hard surface.

This video below was taken last weekend on Grand in RockStar.

Anyone looking at the new GoPro HD camera, here are a couple vids from this past weekend. I was able to pick one up at the PRI show her in Orlando last Friday and put it in various spots on my Allison.

Very cool little camera. Make sure to click the "HD" button for YouTube. Youtube is slow, but worth the wait. :cheers2:

The first video has various shots with music and the fastest I ran in those shots was 75-80, whereas the second is mounted to the side of my cowling looking straight down and topping out at around 105. :seeya:

GL, what speeds were you hitting in the recent videos? very cool footage.
That was back in early October with the small engines I have hit 136 with those and in that run we hit 128 mph. We passed the whole pack and then laid back down. Stainless kept going full tilt after that but we saw no point in running that hard.

The full hi-def and lenght videos are here if you have the patience...
