HD Camera In Boat Filming Question

Late to the thread, but anyone still trying to use a handheld - turn off autofocus and set to infinity. Also use a vibration damped mount. That worked in the racecars.

I tried that with the Sony mentioned in post 1. The issue I have learned from many discussions here and over at OSO is that the lens on those camera are suspended with dampening mechnisms such as springs or something of that nature and that you cannot turn off so I found that it was always a little shaky looking at speed, I have had the best results with hard mount and smaller cams like mentioned here with HD capacity.

Freeze Frame and the Statement boat for example have smaller cams wired to a gathering box whether Hard or flash drive that also gives great results but is a lot of wires and I am not sure they have 135* angle of view as clear has i have seen in these.
What is on Youtube is dumb down a little for the real footage you can check here; http://www.limestonedev.com/mti/video/ there are a couple smaller clips from a run in October you can see how this works.

The Sony works great when someone is holding it like in these clips, click on the YOUTUBE logo bottom right to get a bigger view;

Oh yeah, there's no comparison between a remote camera and a handheld when it comes to vibration. Remote vid/audio with solid state data gathering is the way to go, as you've got. But for those who might still be trying to use their Sony Digicam, turning off autofocus helps.

What you need next is data over the video...speed and tachs. :D

Data actually if you know how the dash is set up and look at the higher def stuff on the big files and even on the Youtube stuff you can pick up the readings. 4000rpm is 12 o'clock on the two tachs and 4100-4200 is 100mph with the props we were running. 5300 rpm like we hit in this video is 128mph.

Here is the dash with the current instruments.

Watch how much the deck is flexing

i'm sure the deck flexes to some degree, but nothing that much. it's probably just the frame rate of the camera. watch the demo video with the camera on the allison. it looks like the hull is made of jello. if you have a camera phone (very noticeable on the iphone), rotate the camera slightly while taking a picture. it will be heavily distorted.
