The boat ran. Someone didn't do their homework, and I don't believe it was the builder.
You take a 50' boat from a builder that's known for very heavy open-ocean layups, then you start to add... 3' of bustle on the back, radar arch, tons of options, etc, etc. Each piece increases the weight. If you forget to add power each time, you gotta figure it's going to slow down.
But the single biggest telling factor in this story is the boat's replacement. Outerlimits. A guy goes from the heaviest to the lightest in one jump? Makes me wonder if they did ANY research or gave any consideration to what they wanted in a boat or if they bought the first big, shiny thing they saw.
