The first picture is an engine that is going into a 1994 Penske Indy car that I own. 32 valves, 4 cams, 161 cubic inches, 700 hp at 10,000 rpm and still climbing when we chickened out. (Only 5 psi boost, too...) If I remember correctly, we raced them at 11,800 / 780 hp.
The second picture is a 2-valve pushrod engine we built for Indy that year that made 1,012 hp from 209 cubic inches at 9,800 rpm and 12 pounds of boost. Raced it once, won the 500 and retired the engine. It would actually spin the wheels inside the tires....
Each engine weighed right at 300 lbs.
