Jon Kaase builds some monsters to but they are Ford based. Saw 900+ c.i. mil stuffed into an EXP one time. If i remember correctly there was a promo photo that showed a coffee can in one of the cylinders. Thing was nuts
heres a link to sonny's - http://www.sonnysracingengines.com/
you also got kasse and steve schimdt. i think these guys are all pro mod drag guys. i think 640 is about all you can get out of a standard big block until you go to the 5 inch bore spacing and than you need all special stuff. i heard that stottler ahd 700 cu in engine in the mystic cintron.
I've seen engines pushing 900 cu in's. The biggest problem I've found, for marine, they are all one off pieces (Big Chief etc.), and every block I've seen in that range have no water passages. Purely aluminum/alcohol drag motors.
There are some big chief stuff in the just over 800 cu in range with cooling passages. That's about the best I've seen. Still one off special parts with giant price tags. I know a couple guys who would be more than happy to help you spend your money on one though if interested.:sifone:
I know the donavan 666 CI makes on mild bases N/A single carb with 89 octane a stunning 980 HP @ 5400 RPM and over 1000 FPT !!!!
But they are 1120 deck hight so its tight in a twin. LOL
The decks are 1.4 inches taller on a 11.2 deck Merlin block. That leads to header clearence problems in V hulls. Maybe better in a cat. 632 is pretty common from a standard tall deck. (+.4 inches taller)

Fords can work in a boat! I believe those from Kasse are all hemi head (Boss 429) Variants and he has just come out with a new Boss 429 head that will run on a stock 429/460 architecture with regular water passages. :sifone:
The 5" bore blocks are somewhat longer. Probably 3+ inches. IIRC, they're on 5.3" bore centers.
I would love to see someone build an offshore boat with a pair of Packard Merlins.
I saw a boat at an antique boat dealer in Clayton NT last year- looked like a big version of a Magnum 27. It had an Allison v-12 on a gearbox driving a pair of Arneson 6's. Was built by a guy in Michigan I was told.
Hot Rod had a picture of one of the big in Sonny's motors next to a regular big block, maybe 6 months ago, the thing was a monster compared to the Chevy motor.
I'd heard that the big 43 Schiada was built to run V12. Anyone know the whole story?
