Max Cubic Inch???

How about a 1080ci v16? I wonder if they got this idea from Tractor pullers?

The Torques were sort of the same deal but with V6 IMSA motors right? Or where they a custom block with the V6 heads?

And say what you will about modern boats... You'd be hard pressed to find a better looking boat than some of those old wooden race boats from the '20s and '30s (and their modern replicas of course).

And until you've heard a big Merlin run flat out, you can't really call yourself a motorhead... :sifone:

I think they where copies from V12 lambo's !!!!
Similar to the BPM V12's.

2140 HP @ 8100
1475 LBS. Torque @ 6500
Complete and Dyno TestedPRICE $89,300.00

And look, it's basically cheaper than a Merc 1200sci!!:leaving:

A long time ago I believe it may have been Doug Lewis who was involved in the development of a monster cubic inch engine that produced 1000 hp/tq NA'ed!! The engines were in a cat down in Barnegat possibly??

Anyway, I was having an engine Dynoed at his shop after Doug passed away and Danny was rebuilding those engines.... I saw the super deck Big M block with raised cam bore, oversized lifters and the crank as he was assembling it.. This was a number of years ago but I think I remember Danny saying the crank was either a 4.75 or 5" stroke, it just looked enormous on the bench sitting next to a stock crank.... now that was some big azz chit!!

Found a pic and some info....

They were in a Skater called "On the Prowl" They were 1,000hp WITHOUT blowers. Doug Lewis was commissioned to build big horsepower, without blowers, that would last at least 200 hours. They were EFIs and 640ci with the ability to switch to 87 octane.

When I saw them at the shop and they were being rebuilt the internal parts were barely worn!:driving:

maybe some others have better pictures....

My shop is located near a small airport where there is an air museum. A guy flies a P51D out of there. When he makes a fast pass over the building you can hear the supercharger whine and it will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. They also fly some big radials out of there and they sound good also, but nothing like the Merlin.

The Torque's were a new design but they were based on a 572 ci bbc rotating assembly x 12. They went too far with special gear driven acessories custom made for that engine. Now that they're out of business, any boat with Torque's is a real white elephant.

There's always the Wartsila 96 marine diesel. 14 cylinders, 114,800 horsepower at 102 RPM. 90 feet long.

DOn't exaggerate, only 89 feet long.....:sifone:

Some facts on the 14 cylinder version:
Total engine weight: 2300 tons (The crankshaft alone weighs 300 tons.)
Length: 89 feet
Height: 44 feet
Maximum power: 108,920 hp at 102 rpm
Maximum torque: 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm

World's fastest box van?! :sifone:

Thanks Dude, I love Merlins and Allisons are OK to.

Back on track, I thought Sterling wound up with the Torque stuff. I realize their V12 wasn't I guess cost effective or maybe over engineered but I give them a lot of credit for trying something different.

Ateco Engines just built pair of 632's with a single carb over 800 hp on pump gas. 140 mph in a 36 Nortech. That is moving for NA engines.

Some of the guys are getting 700 hp NA out of their 540's. Using the same hp to c.i. ratio, a 632 would put out 819 hp. That should be very doable and driveable.

510 Ci , on 93 octane solid roller and good internals. Is ~ 680 HP reliable.
598 Ci , on the same as above .Is ~ 800 HP.
So a 632 should easaly do that.

So if you glassed three 41 apache's together you would still have room for a three foot cockpit and a 30 foot fuel tank???????????

Big Offerings!

We've made a few of these beauties in 632 cubic inch N/A at 10.0 to 1 and 91 pump gas they make 865HP and about 900ft/bs of torque.

And Yea, at around $50K each they look pretty cool too!

Best Regards,
