Strong Meteor Shower Expected Tonight

The annual Perseid meteor shower is expected to put on a good show this week for those willing to get up in the wee hours of the morning and wait patiently for the shooting stars.

In North America, the best time to watch will be between midnight to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 12, but late Tuesday night and also Wednesday night could prove fruitful, weather permitting.

Just pulled off the Lake, was listening to a live Jimmy Buffett concert on XM,I thought I saw a flash of light, maybe it was my time, thank goodness my wife told me about the showers tonight. All is good!

I saw a couple small ones this morning, no big deal, but I caught a big one that was spectacular! I was riding my bike at about 5:20 this morning and I see it appear over the horizon; the streak was greenish in color, and the meteor broke up into about 3 or 4 pieces. Really cool to see. It was also the longest one I'd ever seen. Most last maybe a second tops, this one was slow and from horizon to treeline took maybe 3 seconds.

Going to head back to the cottage tonight and have some drinks on the beach. Should be a good showing as long as its clear!
