Chicks, Chips & Boats

Well it's official. I am employed again. We are going to close the store at the end of our lease in October, if not sooner. I accepted an offer to go back to the company I was leased to for 15 years. I start next week as a company driver for now, but will eventually put a truck on with them again after all the store inventory is sold off. I go tomorrow for NEW driver orientation, which will seem a little weird. They were gonna run me through an accelerated "get you up to speed" kind of thing, but I told them I'll play by the rules. After all, a lot of things have changed in the six years I've been out of the industry, so it won't hurt me to get educated again. One of my part time guys that's laid off right now will cover the store Tuesday - Thursday while I'm gone and I'll be here for Fri and Sat. Store will be closed Sun and Mon. We will run that schedule until the end of August and then see where we're at and decide for the remainder of the lease.

What ever will I do with a LIFE and a PAYCHECK:biggrinjester:

They move the weigh scales or something?:biggrinjester:

Hope not. I'd have to learn all new scenic routes:sifone:

New hours of service rules went into effect a couple weeks after I came off the road, so I'll need to brush up on that and I'm sure the paperwork in their system has changed some to.

Great for now. There will always be another time when the economy actually is an economy. (I hope). Be thankful you have the opportuniy to do somrthing now.

Never do'n retail again. I prefer an industry where the revenue generates an exact expense. Retail is the opposite where the expense out weighs the revenue and you hope like heck you can sell it.

My sister said I was crazy for not taking over the salon I have been at since 96.She took over the lease. Now I still just pay my booth rent and my bills didn't go up 350.00 at Christmas time........Low overhead.......

My mom had Rotator Cuff surgery yesterday. Dr. said it went well. Going to see mom at noon with the kid. Work is slow this week, boooo. Barb, your boat looked good in the pics from the run. Your hair looked really blonde. Was that you?

Have a 'good hair' day........

Glad to hear things went well with your mom Jann.

Thanks for the comment on our boat. She ran well!! We had 6 people on the boat so I shared my front seat with a friend, whose hair is really blonde. Mine is lighter than when you saw me last. The sun really bleaches my hair.

I was home last night to spend more than 5 minutes there for the first time in over a week. It felt great. Rob's sanding down the garage door framing so we can prime and paint it.

Looking to get our dinghy blown up and put in the water. Hope to get that done this week.

Other than that, the weather is finally turning into summertime.

Well, we're back. Got in late Sunday night.

Flew from Grand Rapids to Seattle the previous Friday. Met my Sis and Bro-in-law in Minneapolis on the way.

Stayed in Seattle and visited relatives until Sunday Noon, then went to Scappoose, OR and visited other relatives for awhile. Then drove to Cannon Beach, OR for Sunday night. Then drove down the Oregon coast to Yachats, OR for Monday night. Saw whales out of the hotel windows, wandered on the beach a bunch, etc.

Tuesday to Albany Or for my nieces wedding. Back to Portland to visit more relatives Wednesday. Sis and her husband went back to Iowa Thurs AM, we headed back to the Oregon Coast. Started in Waldport, OR, stayed Thurs night in Brookings, OR, Friday night in Fort Bragg, CA, and Sunday night in San Francisco.

Highway 101 and 1 the entire way. First time my wife's ever seen a Redwood tree or been any farther south than Florence, OR.

She was a little disappointed with Fisherman's Warf, but really enjoyed the Redwoods and Coast.

Figure we drove a little over 1000 miles. Not bad at all, but was getting cramps in my brake leg on Highway 1 trying to make good time through some areas......:sifone:

Forgot how nice it is to have people pulll over for you to go by.....

Everyone should see the Redwood's at least once in their life! It is a sight to see. I was 14 or 15 when I saw them and still remember how beautiful they are.

Glad you had a good trip and made it back safely. We missed you.
