I know the shots were made from the fantail but there are discrepancies regarding the insertion. I've heard of a HALO jump and recovery back to the Bainbridge, can anyone confirm this?

That report said that they were Helicoptered in earlier to the deck of the Bainbridge. Had a cup of coffee..maybe a cinammon roll and then BOOM...BOOOM....BOOM!!!!:sifone:

Yeah that sounds a lil more like it, I couldn't wrap my head around the operators getting wet if they didn't have to.
The fastest way to get speciallized personnel to anywhere is fixed-wing. It's tough to parachute onto the deck of a moving ship so they go into the water and await pickup, either by helo or RIB. I'm guessing the Navy wanted the three best shooters they could round up, since this was a pretty high-profile deal.
The shots were at pretty much zero range for a tactical rifle, but at those distances it's still tough, considering they were in a bobbing raft and there was a civilian inches away.
You wanna' know why we spend billions on defense? For this. It's time that we got back to that point where the a$$holes of the world know that f'ing around with anything American swiftly becomes a terminal event for them.

I agree with your last point but this shouldnt end here with a parade at home for the Captain. These as oles should be wiped out now, not later.
And why 5 days to find the shooters. Why wasnt this over with a large gun when the Captain jumped overboard 3 days ago ?

My opinion is that an insertion team more specific a SEAL insertion team was either HALO'd or submarined into the water and they boarded the vessel while the Capt was away from his captors and the captors were then neutralized at which team insertion team was extracted from the water after Capt and team entered the water and other pirate was immobilized!!!!

Wasn't the young pirate already on the US ship getting his hand fixed while all this was going down.? Thought I saw that on CNN yesterday.

I am curious about how this exactly happened but in thinking about it, perhaps it is not in our best interest to disclose to much. Unfortunately we might have to do this again in the near future. Because of the freedom of the press in the US and the public feeling they have a right to know every detail I often think we tell to much.
I think the hand injury you are referring to was on the 4th pirate that was injured during the shooting.
Those sharp shooters amazed me, made me proud to be an American, made me feel that we finally were not afraid to some muscle.

How is the target actually hit? do they use some kind of thermal imaging scope and penetrate the boat or did the just wait for just the right head shot through the window or something. Man that is some impressive stuff after seeing the boat they were in. I was shooting an AR15 over the weekend and was lucky to hit the whole target at like thirty yards

Well, just a guess, but I'm thinking they had two goals in mind. Lulling the pirates into complacency and using time, stress and fatigue to move them towards making a mistake. At the time the pirates lost control of the captain, they were still some distance away and obvously unprepared for the event.
Within the SEAL teams, you'll have specific operators of differing skillsets. Some have more advanced medical backgrounds, some have more advanced climbing and mountaineering skills and some are high-precision marksmen. And some became SEAL's last week whereas othes have been there a while. If you have the time, you choose the best tool for the job.
As far as hardware, as I understand it, they were fired upon when they exposed themselves. There really isn't some magical firearm-mounted optic that can see through solid objects. Now if you're talking aircraft or satellite mounted...

they parachuted in ccause they were not aboard the vessels in the area... no halo... why would that be neccessary?thats used to infiltrate from a distance away as not to invade airspace(per my green beret buddy who is now one of the Virginia boys... i would have thought fast roping to the deck but the report is parachuted in... the one pirate suffered a stab or cut in the original taking of the large vessel.... the four were on the lifeboat... they took him aboard on the third or fourth day for medical treatment and to assist in direct communication and negotiations(direct intel?)... the shots where taken after TWO approvals for use of leathal force by obama one fri eavening the other sat morn(their time or ours im not sure).... the one with the gun on the capt was exposed... then the other two exposed themselves shoulders and head at the same time thru windows or openings at an oportune time... shots were taken they then shimmied down the tow line cleared the life boat made sure the three were dead.... then removed the captian back to the ship....

I agree on the HALO part so they were air dropped in to the ship again I still feel that it was over before the so called sniper shot to the heads
the life boat is to closed off for them to aproach even at night there was no assault on that boat... thay waited and waited and got lucky when all three exposed themselves at the same time.... the imminent threat is the bs part... they waited got the oppotunity and took it.... the idea that he was in imminent danger at the exact time when they were ALL exposed is the story fed to the media for everyone
