On the back of the gauges is the terminals to screw the wires from the dash in....... most gauges have 4 terminals, 2 are labeled (I), one is labeled (G) and one (S)

You can usually separate the light from ignition. Volt meter has no sender.
The gauge needs power and a ground for basic function. Most senders adjust ground to move the gauge. You can test the wiring to a gauge by grounding the sender. Most gauges this will peg the gauge to the right a few may peg to the left. The tach is different do not ground its sender lead
on the volt gauge, can you attach both the wires to the sender or ignition? or will the volt gauge have your typical 4 terminals coming out the back
also, if the terminals coming out the back where the wires slide on or and the nut tightens onto is broken short, is it possible to take the old terminal out and replace it with a newer longer one?
