55 MPH Group in Poker Runs

I have and will always do the poker runs I attend at an average 55-60 mph... Maybe a few short spurts to 70-85 mph but that's it.. I don't go to poker runs to stretch the legs on my boat or measure each others manlyhood.... That mentality has pushed a lot of boaters away from the poker run scene because they have attracted the big dogs at all the runs... I go to to have fun with friends and not go fast...maybe I belong in a cruiser..lol The NJPPC runs are great, my only beef wtih their 55mph class is it only runs the inside/bay and not the ocean but its a great concept.

Now that we have a kid I'm looking to do more family oriented porker runs or maybe less poker runs if we can't enjoy it with the little one.

Anyone in the northeast who wants to experience an event like this in it's very best form should consider joining the NJPPC and taking part in the August 20-24 Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous. Last year was the first for this event, and we all had a ball. Easy cruises to great destinations and lots of great times once we got there. We did it all with a self-imposed 65 mph limit, other than a few quick bursts in wide-open water.

....and NO BOATS BROKE. 100% finished the whole deal.

I have run in the Florida Powerboat Miami to Key West a couple times and they had a pace boat, if you pass it you were gone. Once they got us out in open water they let us run once for a short blast which was fine, the whole thing seemed to work well and my boat didn't break down:sifone:

I'm glad this is being openly embraced. Not only for the inclusion of the slower crowd, but for the promotion of a sensible, safe, good time for all. Kudos.

Back in the late 90's my boat was considered fast, 107, some time later, early
2000's was in a poker run and was way out in front when I heard a noise getting louder by the time I turned around the cat went by at 150-160 mph. At that point I knew my speed days were over cause I was never going to go that fast on the water. At that speed on a public water way to much can happen too fast with only one out come from an accident.

I was a pace boat for the Lake George runs. Do to regulations we kept it at no more than 60mph. Boats ran together from 16' Donzi's to big powered cat's. Some complained but most said they had a fantastic time. It was better than not having a run at all.

I use to have a 260 Scorpion that ran 60 at best and i always had a great time on poker runs. I'll tell ya why. I would go to the milling area to wait for the start as far in the direction we were going as i could get. After we took off, one by one all the faster boats would go by and it was always cool to see and hear. When we got to the stops i would be one of the last ones there and i would be rafted on the outside of the group. Repeat process at every stop

I'm going to St Petes in my new boat that goes an exact 90 mph slower than my old boat ( which will also be there )
