Chicks, Chips & Boats

Man, I see more and more people in business suits lately. People are freaking out obviously, but man, clining to an odd antiquated mode of dress just seems silly to me. I'm going to show up in a pair of highbutton shoes and a ruffled collar just to look a little more "formal" and "serious"...

I mean I freakin' hate suits. Sportcoats too... I dread them. It seems absurd to me to wear a jacket if you're not cold. And a guy in a bad suit looks 10x worse than someone who's dressed casually but dressed well.

You guys hate suits or am I just being a wang? Or both?! :D

They have served me well. But it is impossible for me to fit in off the rack so I spend more having the suit cut then the dam suit. :D

In board meetings, speeches, presentations, interviews. But I am in a business that deals with the financial sector. And older folks of some capacity and influence. A great suit saves me time winning their confidence in me as a professional person.

But 10 years ago I wore a Zildjian T shirt and jeans and had hair half way down my back.
:D

suits are not huge in metro Detroit unless you are an attorney or a Fund Razor:biggrinjester: So Sweet what do you do out in Huntington Beach that has you seeing all these suits?

While I can see a suit doesn't necessarily make a person better for a job, it does show a level of detail and committement and just what sort of person that person is. I think that's harder to see in casual clothes. For instance, does the suit fit right? Does it all go together (no brown shoes and black pants...)? If a person pays that level of attention to how they dress, then most likely they'll pay attention to the details of a job that they do.

If I was looking to hire someone for a job and they had similar resume/qualifications, I would undoubtably choose the person who was dressed nicer/paid attention to their clothing.

What DON'T I do... ha ha ha.

I always have kind of a hard time explaining what I do. Too general and it could be anything, too specific and nobody knows what the F I'm talking about.

Most of the time I tell people that I'm semi-retired. I'll generally explain that I was in a marginally sucessful spanish language only punk rock band called the "Muchaleros" in the early '90s and I live off the royalties from that and some investing... Of course that's probably total horse-sh*t... :D

I hear you guys on the arguements... I just hate them so. I'm being childish I suppose. But like I said, I find them to be something of a relic. Then again, SoCal's a bit different culturally than other areas of the country.

Im kinda disappointed to read that from you. I would have thought you would judge the person based on what they said, how they spoke to you ... what kinda feel you got from the person by communicating with them. Guess thats just me ... but then again I work with attorneys and bankers everyday that are total idiots and guess what ... they all wear suits... so I have to base my opinion and trust in what they say to me and how they say it... cuz you know ... they all look alike :D

Oh I dont know ... if somebody walked into my office and decided they didnt want to do business with me cuz I was wearing jeans, I'd probably shake their hand and thank them for leaving. Pretty sure I wouldnt enjoy doing business with them anyway. Lifes too short to stress over something so unimportant:sifone:
