The Official 2009 Daytona 500 Thread

I agree with Kenny Wallace......."Blockin', blockin' everybodys blockin".......

making someone take the long way around you in a corner or pinning a guy down on the bottom groove of the racetrack so he cant get back on the gas is one thing.

but if you insist on "blockin" like matching the guy coming up behind you move for move........chit like that is gonna happen......Mark Martin even JJ wouldn't run someone off the inside of the track like Vickers did......if I was Jr I would apologize to everybody who got wrecked but make a point of not apologizing to Vickers

He did that exactly after the race. Said he's sorry for everyone that got involved except Vickers. "I aint apologizing to him"

If Jr had nailed the brakes, it probably would have been a bigger mess...

He could have continued to turn left and spun himself out...then we wouldn't have 15 pages of mostly worthless drivel....

Now I know most of them aren't racers but to a man (except Chocolate Myers) just about every host and former racers including Buddy Baker thought it was avoidable and Jr's fault...

I know its hard to think of your idol as someone who did something boneheaded and ruined a lot of front running racecars (his not being one) with his move....

What I found was funny was Nascar's insinuation that it was not deliberate and Jason Lefler's was the day before.... Maybe it was because Lefler was in control of his car and Jr. wasn't...or could it be he just ran out of talent...

Can anyone here tell me how many races Jr. won running any type of car (Late Models, Hobby Stocks, ect.) before he moved into the Busch Car to race with the big boys?

restricter plates. if you limit everyone, and everyone is capable of exceeding the limits to varying degrees, you eliminate the seperation of equiupment, setup and talent. end result, a giant bottleneck and wrecks are going to happen. if you have a bunch of eggs, seperated by the cushioning and space of an egg crate, all is well. the occasional egg may get broke, but thats acceptable. if the packer just starts tossing a bunch of eggs into a small box, they are going to start breaking. is it the fault of egg A. that bounced into egg B?? or is it the fault of the guy who decided to pack the eggs by tossing them into a box.

That settles it...I'm going to Waffle House.

I like the way you think. No one is really to blame it is bound to happen.

Sometimes the instigator gets the worst of it. Sometimes the innocent.

This time both was true.

He def could have been a bit conservative and backed off and ended up at the rear of the field and thus stayed a lap down OR COULD HAVE TAKEN THE CHANCE HE DID, THEN WRECKED PROBABLY EVERYONE ELSE THATS DONE STUPID $HIT AT A PLATE TRACK THAT PUT HIM ON THE HOOK BEFORE.

He's 1 of a handful of drivers in "major league" stock car racing that has multiple championships. Call a spade a spade but he's got some hardware.............Just not the big one...........yet

havnt humans evolved enough to be able to solve conflicts without being cavemen and beating the **** out of each other? especially people like this that are in the public eye, and who peoples young kids watch. yes son, its a good idea to go beat up people cuz Jr did it...

That's why , when Mosi Jr was growing up......I never let him watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Too much violence in Movies and Auto Racing.....

......Now Hockey:boxing_smiley:....that's the sport!!!!!!.......

so you think "blocking"......matching a guy move for move who's coming up behind you much faster and then running him down onto the apron is ok????

Yes the car in front of the other can pick and choose his line, he does not have to wait to be passed and blocking is apart of Nascar racing especially at Plate races. No one ran Jr. below the line he over corrected and did it too himself.

His obvious lack of control and/or patience led to the wreck plain and simple...he had ample time to pull back up in line once he made his exaggerated move below the double yellow line and fall behind Vickers.

I and countless thousands agree he got pissed off when Vickers blocked him and then he made a bad move and decided to run into him, not once to show he didn't like the move but twice which ultimately caused the big wreck...

For some reason Jr's head wasn't in it at all during the race, two missed pit stops (all of his own making) and then trying to get it all back with one move cost a lot of good car's a shot at actually winning the 500.

If the tables were turned and it was Vickers who wrecked your beloved "Super Boy" Jr there wouldn't be any end to efforts to try and vilify the driver that took your boy out...

And anyone bringing in lame excuses of payback from another race a couple years earlier is total b.s., you don't payback a driver years later at the front of the pack running 190 mph.

If he's your driver fine you can love him all you want that's part of the charm of Nascar, but don't for a minute think that fan's of other drivers are going to excuse everything he does without question.

Nor should we excuse our drivers when they do something stupid on the track...

How really cares who agree or not. When you block a faster car there will be problems.

I agree if it were different And JR got wrecked I would be screaming.

The difference is if you block with a fast enough car you won't get bumped. If you car gets bumped twice is a second its a sled. The can't hold back a faster car for long.

Defend Vickers all you want. He made the stupid move. And the penalty was imposed immediately

let's recap here.... isn't this what killed DE trying to protect his son for a win?

Sr was making his car as wide as possible but he was holding his line (which I have no problem with) but he was not weaving back and forth like a-hole Vickers was (which I have a problem with and I have a problem with any other driver who does it even if it was Jr )

weaving back and forth......not all the drivers do it.....and if you do your an a-hole.

In Indy Car Racing weaving back and forth is strictly prohibited
