Any thoughts on why nobody has tried 2 better the current record in a long X????? Or have I missed it????

177 is CRAZY fast in a V-bottom. I do miss the secret runs and gossip that goes along with it just before the boat show.

The last attempt I had heard about was Cigarette a couple years ago, I think JT had the boat running close to 170 and felt it wasn't stable, or something like that. Also Reggie said his boat had run over 180 in testing and if someone broke it he was going to reset it the next day.

If the stories are correct, he did it the right way. Would run it 100 then back to the shop and tweak then 110 and on and on

Do you know any one who could do that for him? :sifone:

There a few like Joe S and Jeff H, but those guys drove for Fountain and Outerlimits. Not too many people have driven a V that fast. Jeff held a record at 140 and 142 for a while. Joe is awesome to. I have only been 125 in a V.

The real point is Fountain's record is the result of a ten year effort. Since '98 the commitment to hold this record was fought. Only Outerlimits made a similar commitment over time. It is unlikely some boat company can show up and take the record on their first attempt. Cigs effort was short lived.

I believe there are 3 extremely fast boats presently that could play in that arena. Fountain, Outerlimits, and Skater. It will take commitment and a huge effort to oust Reggie.

Slight tangent, but Jim, I finally checked out your racing site... You've got a really cool story. I got a ride with Martin Sanborn wheeling a 47 Fountain with tripples last year and that guy is the real deal! I was impressed with how well the boat ran, but really impressed with how well he ran it.

More of a tangent than a full on Hijack... I mean, it's got fast V bottoms, Fountain, etc... I thought Sanborn throttled "Catkiller" on occasion.

If I remember correctly, Ben Robertson was working for Cigarette when they did the run. He wouldnt be a bad choice.

The Fountain saw 183 that day but the avg was 177. There was a test run the night before the actual run that morning. It was a sight to see.

I don't know if this was the run in Washington or not, but I can assure you the run here was impresive! bananas2.gif
