"The Filthy Thirteen." And they were badasses on many other days and in many other places than just D Day. They were dropped into the Battle of the Bulge, when Bastogne was completely encircled by the enemy. They were expected to all perish. They lost one man.

The warpaint was inspired by Jake McNiece, who was part Choctaw.

An interview with a couple of them can be found on the two disc DVD set of "The Dirty Dozen" which was based in part on some of the myths surrounding the Filthy 13.
The last member of the unit died at age 96 about 6 months ago.
 
It would be cool if they would do a real documentary on them, or have they somewhere?
