XM Radio on Boat

I have XM Radio in my truck, and it's all I listen to.

In the boat I have a Sony head unit which will play AM/FM, CDs, and iPod. There are several XM stations like Area and BPM which play great club music. I would like to be able to add XM radio to the boat and play these stations.

I would also like to re-broadcast the XM signal via an FM modulator so that the nearby boats could play the same music.

Any suggestion?

Buy a receiver that transmits through the FM modulator. It will transmit to yours and a few other boats close by. I have it on my boat and it works great.

You will get a clearer signal with a direct plug into the "bus" of your Sony headunit, vs. FM modulator/transmission.

I have a Sony XM adapter & antenna that I don't use anymore. I'll dig it out in the next couple days and try to figure out what I'd sell it for.

I put Sirius on my boat last year and love it. Better than fiddling with the iPod.

This year I'm thinking about replacing my radio and going with XM since Garmin uses XM for GPS weather

I have a XM Roady,I move into my wifes truck for the winter and the boat in the summer.Plays off FM signal,I have two ant. and plugs, leave them on truck and boats, takes two seconds and ready to go.

I do have a "direct" connection for the Sony head unit. It is basically a headphone jack for a wired connection to an iPod which is on a boat next to me. I also have "Y" adapters the extention cables so that we can wire four or five boats together.

I would like to find a portable self-contained XM radio receiver which will use the "cigarette lighter" for power and allow for the headphone jack connection all for under $100.

I have a Sirius Stiletto SL2 and use it in my truck and boat and in the house. It has a builtin fm transmitter built into the car dock. works great the boats tieded up to me can tune in the station and we are party central. Not much difference between XM and Sirius now.

I made a adaptor for this that went in line with the pre amp outs. It worked very well. Range was about 1/2 mile. The only problem was that when you adjusted your volume it adjusted it on everyones boat so you had to be carefull. If you had a unit with fixed outputs it would be perfect. You could have a stereo repair guy tap into the board on the head unit I am sure to avoid this issue. We did it this way because it was only for one party that we were going to and did not really want to spend the time for one day with it. I will try and find out the place that showed how to make it this evening.

Clay , that little roady xt is a good portable / cig lighter powered. Use that aux in on the sony if you don't do the direct piece , Much better sound. They all got nabbed by the fcc for putting out too much power on the fm modulators so now they all suck. If you are an existing xm sub , I'm sure you'd get the best deal from them online. You have til like the second week in march to get add ons locked @ the old family rate , I think 6.95 , after that it goes up 2 or 3 a month each unit.

Clay,

I have a XM SkyFi2 that I move from home stereo to bedroom stereo, boat, RV, cars, etc. Very portable and easy to use. FM modulated or you can plug in thru a cassette adaptor too.
