Here are a couple from the Doolittle Gathering, at both the National Museum @ Wright-Patt, and at Grimes Field, in Urbana, OH.

Panchito was captured at 1/50th, & Miss HAP at 1/25th. More to come.

Was this a gathering of birds in memory or living pilots?

Both. This gathering was to commemorate the 68th Anniversary of the Doolittle Raid. There were 4 Raiders of the surviving 8, in attendance at the National Museum @ Wright Patterson, where 17 B-25's took off, and did a loose formation fly-over. These images are from Grimes Field, in Urbana, OH, where the B-25's staged before & after, flying in & out of Wright Patterson.

Here are a few more.

Nice tribute.
Not many of those guys left.
Didn't realize 17 were in flying status. Any pics of the formation?

There are almost 48 B-25's, that are Airworthy, but the cost' to get em up is expensive. These things have 80 Gallon Tanks. So 80 X $4.00 per Gallon = $3200, just to fill these birds up once. And people think boating is expensive :smash:

I'm working on the Formation pixs that I got, along with the 350 others' that I haven't worked on yet :), but I only got about 3 at a time, due to the lenses I was using. I'll get em up in the next couple of days.

And yes, Pacific Prowler is a Gorgeous Bird.

Thank you for the feedback.

Thanks for sharing James.
I'm a fan of the WWII birds. Live in the EAA's back yard. Spent some time crawl'n around in Aluminum Overcast as a kid.

Keep'm fly'n

We got buzzed by a B17 a couple of weeks ago when we were waterskiing in Long Beach. It occurred to me, boats are cheap bathtoys compared to what it must cost to keep a 60 year old heavy bomber running!

That may have been Aluminum Overcast. She's in CA on tour.

You can hook a ride on her while she's there.

Fighters are about 1k per flight hour. Thats an average of all expenses occurred.

Wow, that's cheap. A photo op/ media ride in the B-25's for Doolittle, was $1500 per person, for an hour. :sifone: However, for Civilians' its a little cheaper @ $400-$500 for about a 15-30 min flight, depending on location.

And I have been told by fellow aviation photographers, that to ride in a P-51 Mustang, it's $1500 per half hour, so for an hour ride, its $3K. :ack2:

Very reasonable. If it's ever near you, it's well worth the trip to see it. One of the nicest restorations done. Checkout the pic tour on the site and their FB page.

Love this stuff. Reading airshow/WWII day June 5th at Reading PA. Lots of war birds. Anybody been to this? Last years was great.

Here is another shot, with a slightly different perspective:
