Wow...almost 12 boats race in Miami!

WAY too easy!

Looks like some people get their common-sense from the same place they get their grammar. A place where the sun don't shine. :dupe:

That would be "sun doesn't shine" as in the sun does not shine.

A place where the sun do not shine just does not flow off of the tongue.

At first was considering a 28 Batboat with a canopy mod. Then, come to find out, they're not legal for anything except the bracket classes which make it kind of moot.

So, most likely a SVL with a four man canopy. However, I do want to figure out how to make it detachable. So, if we want to use it for pleasure between races, we can. I'd back down to just two boats most likely, but you never know.

So, anytime canopy comes up, I pay close attention.

3 boats come to mind....

Ray Delaneys' 39 Phantom. Think he is lookin to make a deal.
There is a 35 Fountain in the classifieds with staggered 500s
And my 30 Phantom SVL (not a 4 seater) too small.

I've looked at the 30 Phantom's real close. It would be a real tight squeeze.

Wonder what the cost differential is between an NXT and all of the blown Imco hardware during a season?

In SVL we dont blow drives that often. we just rip the entire drive off the back. It saves time...LOL

I saw the big fury running a race in Marathon a few years ago. It didn't win, but remember being impressed by how well it rode.

One thing to note.......
The deal wasn't finished or the papers signed until after the 12 boat race in Miami.
The film crew and producers must have seen something that was worth building on.
Maybe a "2009" vision.
just my .02......PD

Dejavu.....

I sure hope it works out better than the Miami Vice movie...

I can remember all of the countless ours of the film crews, footage and racer's time only to be left on the editing floor... :(

A good editor can make 12 boats look like 50. :sifone:

Best of luck with it.

And 24 can look like 100 and 36=150 (Glory Days).
Just a couple of additional thoughts. As Sharkey's post illustrates there are still some misconceptions regarding this deal.
The CBS deal is signed sealed and sitting on a desk in Key West.
CBS Sports does not have a refund policy. Happen it will.

The perception of Offshore Powerboat racing will be formed by these shows.
Like it or not.

More people will be exposed to our sport during the first hour of these shows, then the combined number from the SunChannel-Speedvision-Espn shows over the past 10 years.
If some part resonates, be it the competition, the danger factor, the personalities, whatever.............................we are golden.

WE (RACERS) ARE GOLDEN.
Not SBI, we as people who race boats Offshore. Cities will want events, other television will want in and advertisers will be very interested for the first time in my memory. All organizations and races and most importantly RACERS will benefit.

OK, Carbonell will make some money. I believe that's the goal of having a small business. So what, who really cares?
Offshore will be broadcast into the homes of America on Saturday afternoons the entire fall season.
Advertisers will see these massive hulls as excitement generating billboards and they WILL want in on the action.
Buzz creation is the name of the new game today. Once the interest has been created the sponsorships and fans flock.

Every race on every schedule next year will benefit from this exposure. Offshore has a chance to become a household word here.

MIAMI ONLY HAD 11 BOATS. Tee Hee. Interesting the people with the most "love" for our sport are always the first to bash it. Are you children?

Please don't support SBI. Stick to whatever is working for you. We have all had a call from someone to "Jump Ship. This is not that call.

But don't let this opportunity fade away like Offshore in general seems to be.
If you have a positive attitude an Offshore race boat and the cash to race it, come out to help write the next chapter in Offshore history.

Maybe it won't happen. Tee Hee. Would that make some of you feel better?

Sounds like it is all good!

A show grabbed my attention today called Jockeys. A lot of behind the scenes of horse racing.

Perhaps CBS is not looking to make the whole show racing, but perhaps more about the teams and all of what it takes to stay in a sport such as offshore.

It certainly would be better off that way. More of a reality show being as that is usually all you can find on TV anymore these days....

monster boat buildoff... in this episode Reggie vs. MTI, 7 Days... who can bring the bling to be crowned Kilo King?

Correcto Sharkey, my wise friend. Not neccessairly ALL racing. CBS has one goal and it is not planning on making it a "reality" show.
The plan is to make it a hit. If it needs some reality to accomplish that so be it. We need to remain flexible. With the buzz comes the success.

I think this rings harmonious with my post over in "The Great Unification" thread

All F-16 Canopies, as purchased new through Linder Design, are rejects for visual flaws only. All custom Lavin canopies, which are the basis for many of the current canopy windows, are expected to be free of visual defects. Both are made at TexStar in Texas to Mil Spec's, and must withstand the frozen chicken cannon which fires the birds at 550 mph into test canopies. There is only one way to mount these canopies or windows and that requires using Texstar grommets spaced at precise distances from both the edge of the canopy and each other....otherwise the structure will be severely compromised. The mounting techniques must not only consider the canopy material but also the mounting surfaces must be of a certain minimum strength on the cockpit and deck....and...all seams between canopy and hull/deck must be filled and covered with a fiberglass cowling to absolutely prevent any water entry under any conditions. Water becomes a chisel at speed and will "wedge" any mis mounted canopy to shreds. It is in the mounting where many otherwise well respected major boat builders skip the fatal details.

Many canopies are out there at lower prices, but are not available from either Linder Design (The exclusive marine distributer) or TexStar. These are either used or discarded Military F-16 canopies that are mothballed due to age (ultra violet and infra red rays degrade the materials over time---- about 5 years is the mandated life span). The oldest F-16 canopies are thinner than the current models due to the "bird" requirements and are at least 20 years old at this point. It is also correct that above a certain speed the standard F-16 canopies cannot withstand the stresses. At that point the "windowed" canopies must be utilized and basically the windows must reduce in size as speed increases to increase the overall strength of these inserts.

The most suspect canopies of all, however, are the ones made as "pops" (yes it happens here as well). These are of thinner or weaker materials and are not made of the same form of laminated plastics. These have less strength and other properties.

Under no circumstances are half (or quarter) canopies to be considered safety devices as high speed water pressure through any portal or angle will easily rip them off making them nothing more than another sometimes fatal (and sharp)projectile.

All of this probably annoys many of you....but facts are facts.

T2x

Thank you I learned something to day about canopies, never new about pop offs, wow thats bad. thanks again Art
