I'm seriously thinking of relocating to Costa Rica, or Belize. Anyone have any inside information on living and working there?

I'd PM Gino about Costa Rico.

HAve a friend with a winter place in Belize. Until the one Hurricane, they loved it.

I read about Panama being the new retiree place to be, don't know other than that.

I have a friend who goes to Costa Rica about six times a year. He said Nicaragua. He said they are not killing many Americans down there now days.

I've been to Belize. The tourist areas are nice. Wasn't too impressed with Belize City. Lots of hookers though!

I know nothing specific, but I suspect there's a reason they all want to come here and work. And they have plenty left over from their menial labor jobs to send home to the family.

And with medical issues, I don't know that a 3rd world county is a good idea. When I was travelling to Central America regularly, I carried a policy that provided for immediate air medevac in case of any medical emergency. I've seen what they call a "hospital".

They are all 3rd world countries.i have been to all of them including Panama. By the looks of all the 1/2 completed goverment projects and all the men standing around there must not be any money left to finish them after alll the corruption.

Was just talking to the inlaws last nite. They are thinking of renouncing their citizenship that they recieved form the U.S. 4 years ago and moving back to Switzerland and become Swiss residents that they have been for 20 years. They are Italian Citizens and Italy reconizes dual citizenship so they were able to keep it while still recieving U.S. citizenship.

This new tax plan of Obamas is scaring them back to Europe and even though they can never be a Swiss Citizen It will be much more affordable to own a house over here and go back every 90 days.

Obama isn't going to be here forever. And I can wait him out. I've waited out a couple of other clowns that have crashed the economy before.

The bottom line is that I can make more money here so much more easily than any other place on the planet. If they're going to take a few more percentage points over the next few years, I don't care. And if the economy is soft for a few more years, I don't care. It's going to happen whether I care or not. What I care about is being smart and focusing my efforts on continuing to do business.

This recession came at a really good time for me. I have two kids in college. It's a great real-world, living example of why they should continue to focus on a non-disposable career. When the economy is wonderfully strong, as it has been for most of their lives, it's easy to believe you can live a good life doing something you can find to be challenging, rewarding and fun. This current nonsense truly highlights how important it is to have a career in something that people can't do without regardless of the economy.

I think that they have the right to renounce their US citizenship after 4 years if they want... but then they should leave.
If it is better to be Swiss residents then they should pay taxes and vote there. Too bad it didn't work out for them here. Best of luck to them.

Those of us who were born here, and those who value the citizenship that they were granted will stay here and use the electoral process to the best of our ability.

Yup!

My father has been living in El Salvador (neighboring country) since 1993 give or take.... He holds dual citizenship.

In those years he's;

1996: Attempted Carjacking with a 38 caliber held to his window. He took off and the guy shot at him... shots missed...

1997: He was in a severe accident in a Mitsubishi Montero, a rickety ole truck cut him off and his rear tire blew out.. Truck flipped over numerous times and threw him from the vehicle... Luckilly he survived with road rash.....

1998: I was with him and we had a bad wreck in his Toyota 4 Runner.. We were coming down the main road at about 50 mph when an intoxicated driver swerved to the opposite side of the road ahead of us on a bridge... We swerved to the left avoid collission and as we did the guy caught our rear quarter panel. We did a 360 and wound up in a ditch unharmed but the truck was totaled.. The drunken driver ran from the scene and we chased after him with my fathers gun. (gun is in possession at all times). My surfboard flew out the back window and I was hit in the head by the tire jack.

1999: My father was mugged on the beach with my sister and the perp stole his gun and held to his head demanding money.... Somehow he chased the guy down the beach, wrestled the gun out of his hands and it went off and the dude ran away...

2004: My father was standing outside the car repair place when a kid held him at gunpoint and demanded money and his cell phone... My father threw the cell phone at him and his money clip and pushed the guy away.. As he did the guy shot him.. this time a bullet had his name on it... The bullet went thru my fathers abdomen and exited thru his azz cheek.. He was rushed to the hospital and made a full recovery....

Ya'll can have your 3rd world living.. it ain't for me...

PS, Costa Rica is one of the better countries to live in and it has the most amount of tourism... It's also one of the wealthiest countries down there so if I had a choice that would be it.

They have contributed huge amounts of money and taxes to the U.S> Both him and her our thee kindest most giving people you could ever meet. Both of them donate 20 hours a week to many different foundations. These are not lonely bored people that need a friend or something to do they feel it is right to do this .

They lived through the period in Italy where it became Socialist and they see right where this country is going .He is no dummy he sold a multimillion dollar company and is retired now. He is just tired of seeing all the greed and lying going on by the upper level businesses and the goverment here.He worked hard for his money and he intends on keeping it to distribute it where he see fit.

Fund i bet if the goverment came after your 40 million dollars that you earned not stole and wanted to take 50 percent of it and distribute it to all the lazy chits and all the Crooks in goverment that are waiting in line here you would be thinking up a new plan also.

You are dreaming if you think this economy or goverment is going to go anywhere but down Fund.It will take a total uprising and coop by somebody that is very experienced and has the man power . Man power being others that would be upto running the country without any gain for themselves other than turning this country around. But the hardest thing to turn around will be all the people that will benifit from the new laws that are going into place.

This country needs jobs . If the goverment and the Unions want to kill the people that are putting their neck on the line to produce them their going to go somewhere else. That not being disloyal thats business smarts.Granted the large companies have been their own worst enemies with their huge paychecks to the higher ups.

Bottom line everything has been a farce for the last 10 years and it is time to pay the piper and it is going to be costly.

I took a small bus from Colon Panama on the Alantic side to Panama City on the Pacific side and it was an eye opener. There is nothing there . That Canal employs 60 percent of Panama. The buildings that were being built in downtown Panama i wouldn't go near them let alone enter them . I cannot believe they don't collapse before they are finished. I rode down a 4 lane highway into Panama City and i have ridden down Mountain trails that were smoother. When i think of Panama i think SHODDY workmanship. And just think these will be the people that will being building the addition to the Panama Canal.

I almost forgot that the bus ride was thee scariest thing i have ever done and you could not pay me a million bucks to do it again. On the way back to Colon i convinced the people on the left side to move to the right side if they wanted to live., because we had a 50/50 chance of having a high speed head on crash at the rate we were going.

I have been in many scary buses and taxis all over but that ride scared the living hell out of me.

One other thing It is called Colon beacaus it is thee filthiest chittiest disgusting smelly city i have ever seen.Where buildings collapsed they just became the new town dump for garbage. And every 4th building had collapsed.

Oh and Fund they contribute $43000, yes that is thousands ,a year for property taxes alone so i think they are doing more than their part for their community

My sisters parent-in-law are Cubans who went through the Castro deal. They say it is the exact same thing as then and are scared s-itless. Keep bringing up example after example of how it went there and what will be next and it is so far correct....:ack2:

I had a very long in depth conversation with my 75 year old father inlaw and it was an eye opener.
He went through the bombing of Italy and the kidnapping of his father by the Germans into the German Army. He said the scariest thing that happened was when the goverment went Socialist and overnite your paycheck was missing an additianal 30% percent in taxes thsn the day before.

We are heading for that and if you don't think so you better get your head out of your azz. They are implicating all these programs 1st so they can get them in place so next they have the power of the have nots behind them when they go after the haves wallet.

Its here you better believe it.

And go back and check all my posts about what i have said about the economy and housing industrie i wrote 4 years ago.The only thing we have not seen that i thought would happen is the market getting down in the 5s. But the market is running on dreams right now too.
