Windows 7 upgrade ...?

Like I said build the firewall to put in front of both of them is the best approach. We have never seen one of our customers get a virus that has the proper firewalls in place. We have seen both macs and PC's get them when not.

Honestly now my beef with Mac is not the operating system, they are so close now that it is really a toss up. You can get a Mac and run emulation software or even load up windows 7 on it and vice versa. My issue with them is that first of all their stores are a joke. Most of the guys in there don't have a clue. They don't try and addopt to new technologies until much later. So as much as you want to say they have inovated a lot of stuff they also stiffle it as well. For example Blu Ray is something that you will probably never see on a MAC. Screens are low resolution..... Then the prices that they charge are INSANE, see my post above on my comparison shopping trip.

I bought a Toshiba about a month ago. Windows 7 seems to be working great, but didn't like my Google Chrome so I switched back to IE 8. I have to use IE 8 on my work computer so no biggie, plus Roboform/password saver works with it. Toshiba is just OK- main complaint is the mouse button is all one big bar- like a space bar, that acts like a see-saw. I like quick/short finger movements so I can type or click faster and it's killing my thumb. I just noticed it doesn't have a CD/DVD drive, don't use one much any way but this is a laptop and not a netbook so didn't even pay attention buying it. It's been about 5 weeks since I bought it and only noticed yesterday so guess it's not that big of a deal and can use my work laptop for CD/DVD stuff.

I like my IE windows listed along the bottom vs all stacked on top of one and don't use tabs.

would have been nice if W7 started out with 32 bit with a jump option to 64 bit when the majority of the current software was ready for it.. otherwise I love it..

What's the difference? I thought it ran 32 if it was 32 and 64 when it was 64? In laymans terms, how would the computing matter to me? It could be just I don't run in to any problems because all I do is surf the net vs use certain software?

I upgraded from 32 to 64 bit on the old laptop.
BUT - I recently bought a new SONY VAIO with the I7 core. WOW it is fast.
also has a blue ray player and 1080P display.

this thread has my head spining, I have a two year old HP pc, I use it all day for my job. It came with 64 bit Vista, I had to buy new fax/printer, a new version of a data base program called ACT, and the new MS office program, all this was because I needed everything to be compatable with 64 bit vista. The guy that set my computer up suggested I let him uninstall vista so he could install the old XP, well that screwed things up and MS said there was no way to completely get rid of vista. So I fired him and had to hire someone else to re format my computer to all the original settings. So why is this easy to do now, and if I succeed, will I need to purchase all new software:smash::boxing_smiley::cuss:

Buying a new PC may be cheaper than software...

I buy a new laptop every 12-15 months for around $500-$600, then eBay my old one (after using C Cleaner to wipe) for around $200-$300 so my net cost is around $200-$300. Well worth it for the upgrades in technology and speed.

I use Google for every thing- email, calander, picture storing (20G for $5/year), documents, etc so don't have to worry about moving every thing from one pc to another all the time.

Just a thought- running up $200 in software seems easy so there may be better options for around the same cost.

Hey Mark, Just so you know, Crap Cleaner doesn't permanently erase information. Anyone with a file recovery program could easily scan your old drives and find "deleted" information.

Really? I ran a few tests but that was a long time ago and it seemed fairly good to me? The DOD, NSA or Gutmann overwrites aren't really being done? In the old days I use to take the drives out and cross drill them just to make sure but this seemed to work good enough. Thanks for the heads up, I'm going to look in to this a little more. My plan B is to run up all my debt so nobody wants to steal my identity!

Oooops....My bad. I didn't know CCleaner had that option. Good find.
