will a shorty be better on a 24baja

Raising your x will give you more speed and better handling with less trim. The boat will run flatter and faster.
 
First check where you are at now. And be accurate.....


The bottom of the running surface vs the centerline of the propshaft when they are both absolutely identical as far as angle.... no angle
 
i check tomorow and see .boat run good:cheers2: but if the shorty work for me i like to try it?just dont want to waste my $$$$ and time!!!!
 
The reason I'm saying make asure you know where you are starting is because I put a 2" shorty on mine, but the thicker IMCO housing may make it so I have o raise the engine. I won't know until next year when we get to do some more testing, but unless you know how far below the bottom of the boat you are, what your prop slip is, and compare that to others. You really can't get the right answer.
 
i can tell you, from experience that a 2" shorty will help greatly. I had a 1989 240 sport. with 525 hp. I went from 69 to 72 mph and the boat ran nice and flat.

what prop did you end up with?? did your boat chine walk before you but the drive on???

From what I recall you are really pushing the boat up there....
 
last time i took her out had 75gallons of fuel and 17mph wind the river had white caps not a good day but the boat ran good i try a 24bravo one prop. at 5600rpm going in the wind 79.9 , 80.6 , 79.3 went the other way got 81.9 . well it not to bad the boat has a dirty bottom and weather was bad. my best was 86mphwith a clean bottom and gas below 1/2 tank..a lot of guys say my drive is to low and it will be better if i put a shorty . not shore i want to buy one and find out i wasted my$$$$ and time to see if they are rigth?????? i race a lot of guys that do 85 on there gps and put 5 boats on them !!! i have a garmin hand held$100 cheap gps work good around 75 after that it take a long time to read top speed. my buddy got a raydor gun i am going to try.i am happy the boat runs well . and remeber i run 136gears in my drive
 
Well, get the accurate measurement for where it's at now and we'll figure it out. I have a slight guess you must be fairly high now to get those kinds of speeds, but?????

One thing about a good shorty, you can always put spacers in it and lengthen it back out some.
 
thanks my boat is put away now. i am going to fix a few things and next summer we will do more testing . till then i will look for a good deal on a shorty:cheers2:

I'd still get the measurement though. It will help everyone make a good decision...
 
Not a 24 Baja but... My Donzi 18 liked a -2 shorty, handeling improved, boat ran flatter with less chine walk and picked up a cpl, I think I could benefit from a -3" if anyone has one.

Everything I've read, prop clearance becomes a problem with the -3's.


Anyone actually messed with one on here??????
 
In order to run the -3 you need to run the shortened Imco midsection on the Bravos to get enough clearance for props, I'd like to try one along with a Blackhawk drive, theres been a cpl 18's try Blackhawks in the stock and raised X location with some success. The -2 improved my handeling and I picked up about 2 and was able to turn larger pitch and diameter props, boat runs flatter and requires less trim, all around win for my set up no negatives what so ever, just need to "roll it up on plane" when taking off, and I'm still running 3 blade props as info.

I'm looking into it for the Marlin. I put a -2" on it this year. There is some concern that in some of the trim positions, it is allowing the water flow to hit the upper part of the lower unit where it is thick.....
 
It looks like the shorty mis is only available if you have the IMCO upper.

I have not looked into prices yet for the switch.

That sure looks deep to me.

But the upper part of the leg looks deep also. I believe it is deeper than mine, and we are worried about the water hitting the thick part of the lower drive on it.

Guys?????
