Why some people don't want a raise.

While your initial post is wrong Fund what that does not take into account for and this may bum you out more is your

Property tax
Registration taxes
sales taxes
phone taxes
inheritence taxes
cloths taxes (in some states)
oh I could go on and on and on with this......

Don't forget the extra taxes they want to place on soda and booze and all else allegedly bad for you. And your local neighborhood shopping center with the TIF, TDD, CDD, etc.

I'll gladly pay 50% when I hit the 96MM tomorrow night...

There are examples where you can make more but bring home less- AMT is one. Not only that but the exemption dropped 27% from 08 to 09!!!!

at 83k income you can itemize and deduct at least some of all those taxes except the death tax

Are you moving? I thought that is what you were selling your house for?

If so, congrats! IIRC that is a sheet load of money for your area (in DC, not so much..).

No I am not moving. I don't live in the house that I would sell.
I will let you have it for cheap.

The $82,251 was a hypothetical joke based on the tax code. I wouldn't disclose what I earn on the forum. Too embarassing in this group of overpaid schmucks. :D

Don't leave out the famous "rich mans tax" imposed on the middle class....:leaving:

Property tax down 25% for me. And with the mortgage reset to a lower rate it means less deductions = higher net tax rate.

I was thinking that was the case. $82,251 where you are at would be like $350K in my area- was thinking your Apache should be in the water in about T-minus a week or so.

Either way- as you know with your post-911 work change, there is a lot more to working than just the paycheck.

The only tax on that list that can possibly be deducted is property tax and that's if you have enough other deductable expenses (mortgage interest, charitable donations, etc.) to make your itemized deductions greater than your standard deduction.
