I am just wondering about the phrase " RACER ",,

who really is a racer .......one that has a raceboat and wants to go racing ,,,,or one that really actually does !?

mmmhhhhh

To me,

I was a wannabe racer, and said so many times.

Now I'm one who has raced, but am not a racer because I don't compete on a consistent basis. (But I can relate now to what racers go through more).

And, hopefully soon, will be a racer. Which to me is someone who competes in at least 3 or 4 races a year. Or, someone who used to compete in at least 3 or 4 races a year for more than one season, but may not currently because of retirement or the current economy.

Racer: anyone on the Washington DC beltway during rush hour which is the hours between 5AM - 9AM and 3PM - 8PM or any other time on any day that ends in "Y"

i,ll take a stab at it ,,Someone who goes to a race to race and NOT just for the PARTYS,, I heard that somewhere before !!! hhmmmm

Why does it matter?

I think live and let live applies here. If a guy wants to drag some POS to a few races and do it in a less-prepared fashion, why should anyone else care?

If they're a hazard to other racers on the course or their behavior off the course reflects poorly on the other racers, that's a different story.

A guy becomes a racer when he competes against an other racer.

Not everybody that intends to race actually really does get to race. Many go through the motions and steps without competing.

The lucky ones find themselves surrounded with competition. A good race is one where the slightest mistake or problem takes you out of contention. A good day is when a thousand things went right and you are rewarded with a win.

Pretty much sums it up bro......So can I be a racer when I grow up?????

I am not a racer... I am just a washed up has been ex-racer from another sport with a drinking problem and a box of bandaids. Carry on...

now competitor thats a whole different story isnt it!

I figure there has to be millions, because everytime I pull into the gas station with the boat. I meet someone that use to race.

In most "sports " including motor sports you are required to attend all of the scheduled events .
I would think that one who puts the sport above himself is the true competitor .

So how long do you have to be out of it before you're a has been I am pretty sure I fall under this designation at this point....
