Who has a stationary exercise bike?

Ha, really??? What makes you think that? I've seen that proven incorrect personally.:seeya:
Their "fit test" is basically a test of whether you can hold your body balanced to the left or right. I took it, and it said that my fit age is 37. My actual age is almost 43, my diet age is 50, and my liver age is 75.

I brought nothing to the table except balance and was declared nearly fit.:sifone:

Oh... and bamm.

Many of us got on there and we exploded 10 times our original size. :sifone: and way older than we are!

I still can't do the soccer. I guess I'm terribly off balance.

Careful with the ellipticals...not so good on the knees in the long run. I say just buy an ACTUAL bike, then buy a stationary trainer. That way...you could use it inside AND outside. But then, I'm a bike freak.

If you want a stationery trainer I will sell you Ian's real cheap. I am not sure what type
Mike has but Ian's is just a big roller on the floor, it took him a while to get the knack of balancing, I know he got a good work out on it, but has not used it in 10 years.

Why not get a gym membership instead, there are a lot of cheap gyms popping up for about $15.00 a month, this way you can try all the eqipment and see what you like best. I honestly think cross trainning is better then doing the same machine day in and day out. It would get pretty pricy to have an elliptical, a bike, and treadmill at home, plus the home stuff is never as good as what is in the gym. If I a not mistaken Red hot besides being a die hard biker is also an avid runner.

I was looking for recommendations on which one to buy, what features I should look for. My Wii fit says I'm ok but I don't believe it :26: So I'm gonna try to stay healthy. Didn't see what I liked on craigslist.

So...if I bought a...oh never mind

What's everyone getting?

My Wii Mii is still obese, you are good!

I am working on it though....

see you guys soon!

Curious as to why...there is no impact involved with an ellipical so why would it be any harded on the knees then a bike???? They became popular because of the low impact...i.e better than a treadmill. In fact the trainers encourage their use.

They are also more beneficial for your core as you are standing and can do so without holding on. A stationary bike does not offer any core benefit that I'm aware of.

Please do explain.

Thanks. No gym or YMCA for us. Not our thing. Beth has a treadmill that she uses everyday. Yes, everyday. And not for hanging clothes on. Had it for 5-6 years. Still works well. 2 people at 15/mo each for a gym that we wouldn't go to adds up to a nice bike in a years time.

I have a real road bike that I have on a stationary trainer during the winter. Do yourself a favor....get a real bike that you can take for a real ride most of the time, then put it on the trainer in the off season. You'll appreciate the air and the scenery much better.

You guys will just have to make it up to me with Apache rides :26:
My new power just keeps creeping up, bring gas money ok? :)

Donna: you make a good point about varied workouts, I even remember Viperfitness mentioning the value of "tricking" your body. But I think that if you had a decent bike/climber/elliptical you could vary the program and the resistance, supplement other activity, mix in a real road bike like Mitcher T says, mix up your routine, etc... and you would still be doing pretty good.
I stopped going to the gym when I tired of carrying a towel full of other people's sweat around with me. I have a bike, a road bike, a wieder machine and some good free weights. The only hole in my program is that I don't put the time in.

Thanks to all for all the suggestions and advice. Beth and I do have outdoor bikes that we ride weather and time permitting. It's kinda cold in NE during the winter :ack2: We decided on a Nautilus stationary bike. Seemed well reviewed and almost reasonably priced. Now does anyone have any motivation they can spare :sifone:
