My home waters are Lakes Couchiching and Simcoe.
Couch as its known is approximately 11 miles long by 3 wide. It is connected by a narrows to Simcoe which is over 30 miles by 30 miles.

In the middle of Couch is Chief Island or Big Chief as its called locally. Its a no entrance Indian reserve and burial ground but, the shallow sand bottom bays around the island are federally owned and open to the public. Theres a big horshoe shaped bay on the north side which is "the party place" on the lakes. Long weekend bring hundreds of boats and often a live band that plays on a house boat. Any nice summer weekend will find 100 plus boats from little runabouts to perf boats to big cruisers enjoying the bay. Theres a big pontoon boat that serves up BBQ fare on most summer weekends and the port of Orilia is only 2 miles south for restocking trips.

Our cottage is on a small island ( only 8 cottages ) about 1.5 miles south east of the island so we either take my cat or the sea doos or the toon boat ( depending on the size of our group or the days plans ).

The lake is on the Trent Severn water way which connect to Georgian bay and the great lakes so in a couple of hours, we can boat out to the bay and beyond.

There are several board members on the two lakes as well as being home port for Double R performance / Nortech North.

Our boat club hold a few poker runs each summer on the lakes too.

In the sat image below, Lake simcoe is the big part at the bottom and Couch is the long finger running towards the top. Big Chief can be seen in the lower part of Couch.

Tell me about it!
Yeah that place caught us off guard, but it was a wendsday a couple hours before the fireworks and only a couple boats there. The dock guy was not around and the bartender was cool and let us stay for free. I think she figured we were new since we had no clue about the fireworks. We stayed at the marina across from the stadium (in the pic from post #61) That was pricey, it was like $125 to store the trailer for a couple days plus something like $35 to launch and $35 to retreive plus slip costs.

Very cool boating through the city on the river but I was surprised that you could not tie up on the walls. The cove by navy pier is pretty cool.

Magic, I will be in touch come boating time.

Lake Champlain for us.

Here's a link to our marina's webcam. Doesn't look habital quite yet.
