What's your realistic IDEAL high speed?

What do you think is realistically the fastest that you would like your boat to go, that you would actually use, if money was no object? I think for me the realistic high speed is somewhere in the 90-low 100mph mark. To me for running where I normally run (pacific ocean) I think about 90 is a good safe speed. I also wonder how many people have big V's and Cats that could run 150+ actually use that kind of speed or if it's just to say, "I can go...."

Now I have never been in a big cat or V (40'+) or anything like that and if I had my answer might change but for now, this is my answer. What's your highest realistic speed?

I want my next boat to be able to run 80. I'm sure once I have that, I will want my next boat to hit 90. and then 100. and then..:sifone:

Going fast is one thing. Finding a good safe speed is something else entirely. It is easy to get hurt a 60mph.

I personally think any pleasure boat going over 100 in a big V and over 150 in a big cat is silly. There is little or nothing safe about it.

I agree w/ Causin trouble..if $$$$$$$ was no object...150-160 is fast enough for me! That being said my current realistic speed is probably just over 11 mph w/ these sweet new Nikes I'm runn'n. Maybe a little faster if I get some lighter shoestrings and slap a mercury logo on the back of them...

90 in your boat in the Pacific could be a handful. I think for my 29 Outlaw topping out at high 80's would be fine. Most of the guys I run with (TG's, Tigers, 42 Fountains, Outerlimits, etc) generally run around 75 to 80 on the Catalina or Santa Barbara runs. They will open them up once in a while (or if they're racing) but most of the time the water will keep them at 75 or so. Going faster really starts to beat you up. If I can run comfortably at 75/80 without being at full throttle I'd be happy. At the last SCOPE poker run we were running 65 most of the way and pasted a lot of faster bigger boats. I know they could have gone faster but I'm sure they (and their passengers) were happy with the pace.

honestly if money was no object i might just have a big 'ol diesel boat like a 50 NorTec or something. Mid seventy's is fine for me or if i wanted something faster it would be an MTI X Supercat lite raceboat, besides for the most part i get my speed fix on the race course any way .

90 in my boat isn't happening. I was infeering if I had like a 38 Top Gun or 42 Fountain, I would like it to be in the 90-100 range and would actually run it there on a regular basis. In my current boat I would like it to touch the 80 mark but don't want to spend that much money to make that happen.

Comfortable speed is relative to the boat. I have been scared to death in a 21 Skater with twin outboards at any speed over 70 mph. It runs about 120.
I actually had a guy fall alsleep on a long run in a Poker Run in my MTI at 125 mph. Not from drinking but the boat is just so calming and stable at high speeds.

Honestly HP I am currently not a boat owner so if I could run any speed on the water I would be happy... Anything is faster than this intertube I'm roll'n. I would be very happy with 90-100.. that's still fast. I've only been up to 150 and my balls were in my throat, If ya ask me anything over 100 is a little on the dangerous side in an open canopy.

90 or a little better would be good. Right now it flirts with the 80 mark all day long and cruises great at 60-65 without beat'n the snot out of the motors. As far as safty goes...it's more in the common sence of the driver then the boat. Face it, anything goes wrong much over 40 it's gonna hurt like h@ll.

I like the cruise at 60 to 70 but most of my buds cruise in the 50s ..........top speed so far in this handfull is 133 and its more happy at 120 than 90
