As of right now, there are flights out of DTW to EYW for under 400.

The only problem with flying to KW is the possible layover in Miami. Last time we did the flight from DFW to KW, we could have just gotten in a car in Miami & drove to KW in the time we waited for our connection to KW.
It is 3-4 hours worth of drive time from Lauderdale to KW & it is a good, fun drive. Stop @ MM 69 for a picture, stop at the Tiki bar for a drink, stop on the 7 mile bridge & pee off it, get a blow job at Woody's.

TAKE THE FERRY out of Ft. Meyers!!! OMG...it's a BLAST! $125 round trip...they have food and a bar to keep you entertained. TRUST ME...much better than driving down from Miami!!!

Not all airlines hub at Miami.
Some airlines hub at Ft. Myers or Ft. Lauderdale.

One of the flights that I saw when I checked was a total time of less than 5 hours from DTW to EYW, with one plane change in Ft. Myers.

You can, but then you have taxi and hotels to deal with. The ferry back is in the evening so you're there overnight.

There's also the land shuttle. Leaves every 2 hours. You can party until 2am and "red-eye" to Miami or Lauderdale. http://www.floridasunshineshuttle.com/key-west-shuttle.html

You would have to fly into Ft. Meyers. It was cheaper to fly to Ft. Meyers then Miami anyway, coming from Kansas that is...We stayed in Ft. Meyers the night before at a hotel right by the ferry, then caught the ferry the next morning. It worked out great for us.

the ferry is 3 hours - leaves at 8:45am and gets the before 12:00. Then leaves after 5pm in the evenings back to Ft. Meyers.

check into it...if you go, you need to ask for Captain Curly....

I think she meant Jolley but, you're right, she wasn't very specific. Sean, we actually met you at the COPS party in Grand Rapids where they rolled out the plans for the new Chief line of boats. Good party, too bad the boats didn't work out as well...
