What's a 79 Vette worth?

I saw a perfect, red 1978 at a car show last week in South Florida. Warmed-over 350 w/headers. Car is like-new, asking $10,000 OBO.

A running 1979 at $2,000 would be a deal for a keeper. IMO

Who cares if it is "collectable". All 'Vettes will retain some value especially if restored. I'd put some decent power in it to make it fun to drive, fix it up and you have a sweet American hot rod.

Best post on the thread right there!!

I've got a '72. It was a low HP 350 car and will never be worth "big $$$" like the big block or convertable cars. But...........it has had a recent frame-off restoration and the guy put a 406ci/425HP small block in it as well. Then, the economy of Wisc. forced him to need money. I got the car for 12K. It sits in my garage and I get it out once a month or so and burn up the streets.....and I don't have to worry about putting miles on it or anything like that because it will never be a matching #'s or big money car. It is a cool car though and I would imagine that there will never be a time that I can't get my money back out of it!!!

+1 It'll always be a Corvette and fun to drive. I have 1987 and a 1977 and I love them both. The C4 is much more refined and gets better gas mileage with its TPI. The 1977 is getting a completely new interior and with its 355/365hp engine I built for it, it's a pleasure to tear up the roads. I'd like to find a 1992 in yellow that I can buy right. After 1991 they made it into a "gentlemans Corvette" with a nicer ride.

I have a red 78, its actually for sale on ebay right now. I entire drivetrain has been redone, pretty stout redone 350, very fun to drive. Just needs the interior done and a few details. Make someone a real nice fun driver, not a collector, and those are the best. Garage queens are kind of boring. Needs to go so I can concentrate on boats!

Old School love your Vette , the year and color and your take on owning one.I have always had a thing for Vettes as my older brother had quite a few when i was younger.

His green 72 was always my favorite he bought in 75 that was perfect . In the span of 6 months 3 different people backed in to it or ran into it.He was a perfectionist and fixed the body after all the collisions and straightned the factory seams and repainted it in the evergreen with 5 coats of Imron clear, It was perfect.

Almost bit on a 2001 Z06 that seemed REALLY cheap at $19k close to me ending on Ebay yesterday. I had assumed those brought WAY more $$
After checking I was surprised how close to going rate and Kelly that price was.
Not the steal I thought, but seems like a ton of fun for a few $$

That was a good buy. Nice ride.

You gotta check the Vin I was selling cars in the early 80s and the used to put L-82 emblems on all the hoods of the Vettes that were traded in.
Correct. But if the L82 emblem isn't present than most likely it is an L48. I would imagine if you had a true L82 you would not remove the emblem. 5th digit of the VIN should indicate which motor the car has. An 8 = L48 and 4 = L82. At least it will indicate what motor the car initially had. I would also check the serial number on the motor to verify what is really under the hood.

No chance.....If I remember correctly they made a ton of those pace cars (like thousands) and it was essentially a sticker kit on top of a two tone paint scheme. I believe the 94 was the rarest pace car production run and they only came in purple/white and as convertibles. In 86 EVERY convertible was considered a pace car edition and they made thousands of those too!

No car ever became collectible due to a sticker kit.........it usually took low production numbers and higher performance to make it "collectible."

1st I said future:boxing_smiley:2nd sticker kit T/A Challenger/Superbird/Z-28 Camoros??3rd how many will be left after accidents or junked!3rd I disagree and I don't own 1 if I seen a deal on 1 I'd buy it in a New York minute:sifone:Completly stock only!

read into it.........stickers are ok but only in combination with low production and high performance/HP!
