On the (cough - cough) stimulus package:
(The basic message from Obama)
This is an economic stimulus package that is needed NOW!! In selling the plan, Obama has said this bill will make "dramatic investments to revive our flagging economy." Well, you be the judge.

So why is it that only 3% of the package will be spent in 2009? "The Congressional Budget Office recently estimated that only $26 billion of the $355 billion in the stimulus bill would be spent this year, and only $110 billion by the end of 2010!!!!"

Read the bill. To my eyes it looks like 70 -80% is a big entitlement package.
The Democrats assume we are all fools with the so-called stimulus package. The $825 billion package is not even targeted on programs to stimulate the economy. Instead, it is laced with runaway government spending for increased welfare, overgrown bureaucracy, pork, political payoffs, and other waste.

There is $20 billion for increased food stamps, including lifting restrictions on how long welfare dependents can receive food stamp benefits. Another $1.7 billion is to be spent to help the homeless, not previously in our history a significant source of economic growth. Another $1 billion goes for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance program, to help low income families pay their heating bills, a worthy objective that has nothing to do with stimulating the economy. Still another billion goes to the Community Services Block Grant to support "employment, food, housing, health, and emergency assistance to low-income families and individuals." Another $200 million goes for senior nutrition programs, such as Meals on Wheels. Then there is an additional $200 million for AmeriCorps, to help satisfy "increased demand for services for vulnerable populations to meet critical needs in communities across the U.S." Another $5 billion is devoted to public housing. None of this increased welfare spending has anything to do with promoting economic growth.
$3 billion for health care prevention and wellness programs, such as childhood immunizations and other state and local public health programs, $2.4 billion for projects demonstrating carbon capture technology, $17 billion for Pell Grants, $1 billion for Technology Education, $1.9 billion for the Energy Department for "basic research into the physical sciences," $650 million for digital TV coupons to help Americans upgrade to digital cable television, $100 million to reduce lead-based paint hazards for children in low income housing, $400 million for "habitat restoration projects" of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, $1.2 billion for summer jobs for youth, $2 billion for Superfund cleanup.

Even though the legislation contains at least 152 separate spending proposals, the authors of the plan can only say that 34 have any chance at keeping or growing jobs. -Much of the funding within the House Democrats’ proposal will go to programs that already have large, unexpended balances. For example, the bill provides $1 billion for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG)

The plan establishes at least 32 new government programs at a cost of over $136 billion. That means more than a third of this plan’s spending provisions are dedicated to creating new government programs.

This is supposed to be a new era of bipartisanship, but this bill was written based on the wish list of every living -- or dead -- Democratic interest group. As Speaker Nancy Pelosi put it, "We won the election. We wrote the bill." So they did. Republicans should let them take all of the credit.
Anyone want to guess how much ACORN gets???

I confess - Like Jayboat; I cut and pasted some of the above from:

Hopefully the senate and maybe Obama will send it back. Don't hold your breath!

You Obama / Pelosi / Reid supporters; how can you say you support this kind of spending and hypocrisy?

Yeah, some change, Obama said he would reach cross the aisle...not so according to McCain.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090130/pl_nm/us_usa_stimulus_mccain_3

You see McCain was right when he said Obama was all talk with a record that refected the opposite of what Obama said he was going to do. Say anything to get elected and do the opposite...

He had the most liberal voting record in the senate...now we have this totally socialized "stimulus plan"...surprise, surprise, surprise.

What's the number to the Costa Rica'n consulate? I'm going to need that.

one of the only ways that they will stimulate and show an immediate increase in spending is to cut payroll tax and let everyone that works get an additional 50-75 per week in their checks, that will make people do more things and spend more money. but it will put an end to their special interests. until the working man sees it in his paycheck nothing will happen. a 500 check is just going to pay down someones credit card that they had to use while the banks are being bailed out. an additional 2900 or 3600 per year will go along way with the avg working family.

As Col. Steve Austin said.."I can't hold it, she's breaking up" Too bad the democrats dont have the capability, the skill, the knowledge or the money to rebuild it.

I agree, stop the FICA employees tax and the employer match...puts an additional 7.5% (w/o stopping medicare) in both the employee and company's hands immediately. They can save the cost and deposit it directly into SS to make up the shortfall saving the enormus cost of processing checks. Win Win for all. I think if they did that along with school, municipal (police and fire) road, bridge, and sewer infrastructure (stuff we really need) they would put millions in the design, construction, supply and manufacturing businesses back to work. Done deal and everyone wins.

Dems figure things differently. They think if they take half of your money, spend half of that on themselves figureing out what to do with it and administering it, then give the half of the half that's left to someone too lazy to work at a real job. That creates jobs......

What's not to understand??

Recession? What recession?

The inauguration of Barack Obama set an all-time record for the number of pricey private jets flying into the Washington area for the festivities.

At Washington Dulles airport, up to 600 private jets landed in the days leading up to the inauguration.

That number shatters the old record of 300 private planes that the airport accommodated for President George W. Bush’s second inaugural in 2004, Bloomberg reported.

“Of course, flying private to a celebration of a populist, pro-environment president is a bit like the Detroit execs jetting to Washington for bailout money,” Robert Frank observed in the Wall Street Journal.

“How do you call for social responsibility after touching down in a $40 million, gas-guzzling Gulfstream?”

Obama’s inauguration was the most expensive in history. ABC News estimated the cost at upwards of $170 million, four times what Bush’s inauguration cost four years ago.

just watching the news, the repubs are asking for a reduction in iincome tax to put money in peoples pockets from payroll...hopefully this will keep going and help some families.

It is a shame our country isnt run by smart people. Greed and corruption are the name of the game now, nothing like what it was supposed to be.

You know, it's really funny (sad) that these Dems enrich their own lives by not paying as much in taxes (till they get caught) like Daschle and Giethner but they can't enrich our lives by letting us pay less taxes-what is wrong with that picture? I suspect it will not be much more than 6 months and the whole messiah thing will be done and the people will be looking for a REAL change. Hopefully some decent Republicans will stand up for what's right and give the people what they really want. And that is not 5 dollars worth of government cheese and a condom like Barry wants to give us...

How the F*CK do these guys get away with that? THEN they apologize and get a cushy job.
If you or I did what these guys did, we'd probably spend some jail time - or at the very least - own a chit load of in penalties and interest.
These guys are dishonest!!! They have no business being chosen to Dear Leaders cabinet.

Where is Jayboat? Wasn't HE the one bit**ing about how dishonest the Bush regime was????

and know obamas favoritism id down to 55%..and only after 14 days..this stimulus plan is like a dead fish, the longer it sits around, it smells worse, and people are seeing it. Hannity called it the European socialism bill of 2009...that gave me a chuckle.

agreed. this is one of the best ideas ive heard. its not much money but it would really help.

Claire McCaskill (D-MO) a big proponent of Barry during the campaign, was on this a.m. and agrees that there is way to much pork in the proposed bill, and agrees that it needs to be cut.

They also showed the latest Gallup poll that a majority of Americans want Congress to either reject (17%) or make major changes (37%) to the proposed bill. Obama is losing support for this very quickly.

Remember his campaign promises about restricting lobbyists in his administration, and the executive order he just signed his first day in office restricting anyone who has lobbied in the past 2 years from an administrative position with similar ties. He has already violated his own executive order by niminating William Lynn for the Deputy Secretary of Defense...he worked for Ratheon until July 2008.

Throw in the tax issues of his major nominees and it appears that Obama is losing his credibility as well.
